I always wondered what Moiraine's parents actually studied, if they actually had specific areas of academic interest that is. We know they were scholars but we don't know much more about it.

Maybe dead and forgotten nations. Or the Old Tongue (but that seems so cliché). Either way it is very Brown Ajah-ish. Moiraine rebelled and joined the Blue.

It explains her bemused exasperation at some Browns. But she can get that way too sometimes.
Maybe they studied plants and invented microscopes. I like the idea of maps of old nations hanging up everywhere too. That would explain how good she is at telling Manatheren (sp) stories.

Yes, she seems half-scholar at times. She gets her feet wet but doesn't want to become her parents.

How old was she when her mom died? For some reason I'm thinking younger than ten. Her dad died while she was a novice, correct? I envision her parents as being perfect parents and that's why she turned out so awesome.

Yeah, there is an unhappy lack of knowledge about Mo's parents. I like the idea of them studying ancient nations though! Dalresin must have studied at least a little military history methinks:
I'm assuming this is a reference to the book Fog and Steel by Madoc somebody (don't want to go search for the exact name) that Mat and others mention as a book of tactics/military strategy, I'm guessing akin to Sun Tzu or some such.

Yeah, I've always pictured baby-Mo as being a small child when her mother died. And she could have been either novice or Accepted when her father died. I've wondered what that must have been like for poor Moiraine, getting the news of her father dying.
She says how much she loves him. At least Siuan was there to comfort her, I'm sure.

NS, ch 18: Her father used to say that once was happenstance, twice might be coincidence, but thrice or more indicated the actions of your enemies. He said he had read it somewhere.

NS, ch 2: In some things she and Siuan were alike. They were both orphans; their mothers had died while they were young, their fathers since they left home.

It would've been awesome to get a book of small details/short stories of character back grounds or relatives and such

I hope something gets compiled in the future. There must be an amazing amount to go through!
