No, leaving Siuan/getting with Thom doesn't count! I mean things about her as a person. No one's perfect!

She skipped out on lots of books?

Also, her forehead gem thing is probably lethal. I can imagine Siuan and other friendly Aes Sedai in the tower, shouting in the corridors, "Get out of her way, she's in a huff!" And young girls would leap aside, covering they breasts in fear of having Moiraine's hard head drive the gem into their...well, maybe it isn't lethal, it being tiny and all. But I bet it has ripped a lot of dresses when Moiraine walks into people...and maybe drawn blood too, if the person bumped into is less than dressed. In fact, there might well be a small collective of slow moving Aes Sedai with tiny little scars at Moiraine height. Perhaps one could even chart her growth on old nannies she might have grown up with.

OMG YOU HEATHEN.

She has a temper but the temper is adorable.

Alright, she was a bitch to Perrin in The Dragon Reborn, but after what that oaf put is through in books 7-13, I am happy she was a bitch. It was almost like she KNEW the pain we would have to go through in reading all of his crap just to get to the part where she returns to us.

I suppose jumping through the doorway so we didn't get to see her in most of the series doesn't count?

Well if actually jumping through the doorway doesn't count, I would probably say the thing I dislike most about moiraine is her self-sacrificing ways. Personally I think she should have let Rand die, the series would probably have been more interesting and less predictable without him :P.

I don't mind her having a secret romantic side, I just wish she'd keep it secret. All this "dearest Thom" stuff...ugh! God, I feel awkward every time I read it.

I've never liked how she handled the whole Lan/Nynaeve situation

I wish she was more of a bitch. She could have been! She could have thrown Faile and Perrin over the side of the boat in tDR. She could have balefired Fain for making her feel dirty and spared us a whole series of gollum references.

What I dislike about Moiraine is the fact that no matter how bitchy she could possibly get I still bloody like her from her name down to her hair roots

The only points at which I disliked something about Moiraine occurred in New Spring, which was a much younger and less wise version of her, as she herself admitted to Lan in tGH.

In particular, the scene where it is strongly implied that she left an innkeep to be raped disturbed me. It's true that the woman in question was evil and deserved to be punished - maybe even executed - but turning a blind eye to rape is completely beyond the pale.

Another thing that annoyed me about Moiraine - though to a much lesser degree - was her lingering snootiness, aghast at the notion that Siuan was attracted to a "mere footman."

The Moiraine of the main series is a vastly different person; two decades has tempered her wrath and quelched her arrogance.

Which reminds me: I can't like NS Moiraine and main series Moiraine at the same time.

Why not? They're quite different, yes, but it's possible to like both young-Mo and mature-Mo in their own contexts and settings. Things only get messy if you try to transplant mature-Mo's characterization onto her NS self or vice versa.

I have to acclimate to NS Moiraine (she reminds me of a brunette Elayne) and once I do EotW Moiraine seems foreign for the first few chapters.
