300 word fic challenge:
She slid her hand down Rand's bare back as his grip in the tumbled curls of her hair relaxed.
He became so still, his breathing so deep and even, that she thought him already falling asleep. She considered nudging him to roll off of her, but the pressing weight of another person wasn't something she'd felt in quite some time. It was reassuring.
He could stay for a little while.
When she last saw him he was already becoming the leader she had hoped he would become; the leader he must become for the sake of all of their people.
His people.
The people.
The people did not belong to her, she reminded herself. She was not their leader; only one guide to the person who would save what pieces of humanity he could, when the time came.
He was a changed man now, more and less so than she had hoped.
"But we are all of us flawed," she thought, as she brushed her cheek across the top of his head. It was not quite a kiss, but more than she'd expected to give him.
He groaned softly, his voice muffled against the warm pillow of her breast, "Don't think so loud..."
She bit her lip against a smile. She'd always had trouble with unbidden reactions during times like these. There just hadn't been that many opportunities to practice.
"I can't hear you thinking at all."
He made some sort of sound deep in his throat and kissed the flushed hollow between her breasts before rolling over on his back.
She stayed where she was, taking deeper breaths.
The soft lamplight illuminated the walls of the tent around them. Perhaps they'd been seen through the thin fabric. Perhaps no one had paid attention.
"I missed you, you know that.
Moiraine."
