Faile just rubs me wrong. And, upon further reading, I've lost any small amount of respect I granted Egghead. Even though I know why she's trying so hard to be the "perfect" Aes Sedai/Amyrlin, I still don't like her behavior.

Egwene knows nothing about being a leader, exept bossing Rand and the other boys in Emondsfield around. WHAT made her think that she could be a good Amyrlinseat?

most randland leaders aren't too bad (with the exception of Elayne) and I can't stand Egwene she tries to hard and I think there are better characters suited to position of amyrilin

Well, there's the uncrowed king, who, when he reached his majority, did not call his people together in a suicidal effort to reclaim their lost homeland. Instead giving them decades more of life, love and happiness. And indeed there is his wife, who now, at the end of all things, has called forth the Golden Crane once more.

 

The First of Mayne, keeping her city-state independent.

 

Tylin, who realized that the best hope for her people lay with the Seanchan.

 

Lord Bashere, who sees the big picture. And who also realizes that many "noble" families had a much worse founder than an honest blacksmith.

 

Even that honest blacksmith.

 

The different Regents that Rand has placed seem to be a fairly decent lot.

 

Indeed, even Rand himself (I know, blasphemy).

Yeh, a lot of those are good, but I still said she was just better than some leaders, not those in particular. I do think she's better than Perrin at the moment, just because he was thinking of Faile and not his people by running off and abandoning the Two Rivers for so long. It's hard when your significant other goes all captured, though.

With the majority of Aes Sedai, you can't have both good and likeable from my experiance.

 

And the First of Mayne is doing what any ruler would do, nobody likes a crown ripped from their head.

I suppose it would be easier for me to swallow Eggy if RJ didn't seem so caught up in making her, Elayne, and Avi so special so young. It's like everything is just handed to them on a silver platter, and they throw a fit if things aren't.

Nyneave I definetly do not like and never did. Mainly because of her awful behaviour in the beginning and the way she was fighting with Moiraine. Another one is Min the way she turns up in the last series. Especially in the Knife of Dreams. Another one - Cadsuane. As Olivia pointed out she does nothing.

 

I hated Mat in the beginning all the way until I reread the series. I hated him because of the immature little boy that always does only trouble and whines as Jan pointed out. However when you think about his character you would see that he actually is really honorable. He does what he has said that he would do (few guys even in reality do this) a feature that I really like. Another one is that although he is complaining he always does the job to the end. The turning point was when I reread the battle against the Aiel warriors (4th or 5th book?). He couldn't leave the people to the savageness of the Aiel and he went to warn them and although he could have left afterwards he didn't. I find him most down to earth as he really has to do a lot of awfull tasks in the series and he does them but this does not mean that he has to like it. Look at Rand - a robot. "Oh i do not have an arm anymore! Well that's bad but i have to keep going" - this I would say is stupid and unrealistic.

I wouldn't call that unrealistic... Rand could've done a bit more emotion, but Rand is essentially a robot now. That's possible for a person to assume that mentality, sad, but true.

I think it's easier to like Mat after a reread. He's actually a funny guy (well, fun to laugh at, at least). He can be a really great guy when he choses to be.

 

Perrin, I used to love and now dislike. He complains about people thinking that their personal issues are more important than the Last Battle. I don't think I even need to finish my thought for people to know where I was going with that.
