Tosh mentioned this in another thread, so I thought I should start a topic asking what everyone thought Mat:razz:

 

I'v always loved his character, but thats just me.

In the first books I just thought he was an annoying little brat. All of them were really. But he has grown in the later books and the chapters with him are always fun to read, something you can't say about the endless chapters with Egwene. The character himself is much more fun than most of the others.

Mat is one of my favourite characters in WoT and I find him the only normal person in there... everyone else is just so in his own film

 

I admire his character because of many things. First of all - when he says that he is going to do something, he does it no matter what. It just does not matter what happens. I admire people like that. (and he always does it 'till the end)

Although he does lots and lots of stuff he doesn't like he is not as the robots are 'oh it must be done, oh my arm, well anyway' or stuff like that. It is pretty normal not to be pleased with what you have to do, so there is nothing wrong in my opinion to say it. Others would give a word to that - complaining, but if you do the job, I do not see it as a complaining.

The battle with the Aiel and Cahrien was really cool and showed how remarkable his character is. Besides I just love the fact that the stupid Aes Sedai cannot touch him Someone has to get them down to earth as being a channeler does not make you a better person than the others and gives you no right to abuse the power and pretend that you are something more - you are just lucky!

I have found that the thing that makes me dislike Mat the most doesn't even have anything to do with himself so much as with the people that like him... you know.. on those other sites. When they like Mat and are all Whitecloaky about other things and hating to Momo it makes me sad, because Momo is actually sparkly and ran around pulling pranks when she was little too. Well, she's not much like him now. But! Yes, it isn't so much Mat himself as people who want to be like Whitecloaks are in the books.

 

He's pretty immature, but even then is more enjoyable than Rand stomping around.

Though, out of the three boys, he's by far my favourite.

He's a meh. He isn't as mature as he could be, but he lacks Rand's all encompassing ego and isn't as whiny as Perrin.

Iv always thought although Mat may not be perfect but he is far better than either Rand or Perrin

I liked Mat because he wasn't one of those "My duty is everything and I cannot be with the One Woman I Love because of it, like Rand or Lan." And he is bosom-crazed and always ogling, which is just hilarious to read about sometimes. His silly idea that women weren't the "chasers" was annoying though.

I don't understand how the forsaken whatever would find out about Rands loveinterests if only hes a bit discreet. What the fuck does he think they do? Hang around outside his house and look through his garbage?
