An interesting point Tosh brought up about Medieval world. If you look and listen to much of the Forsaken's view points one can find that this WoT world is in fact OUR world in the DEEP DEEP future.

 

The Age of Legends is described really as a time of human understanding of uncharted elements of our brains (touching the one power, tapping the untappable) Then came the Breaking.

 

Semirhage lamented "glow Blubs" in the LoC and Messana mentioned "lifts" to Alviarin. So it's kind of like the High Middle ages after the fall of the Roman Empire. I found this school of thought to be kind of cool. Though I digress.

But fear not! I shall now to the best of my abilities (as they are in my current state) create the post you were hoping asmo had provided us all with.

 

The phrase (two words) the dear Asmo used in his musings about bloodied togas and sneaky old men that I so perniciously quoted got me thinking about Lanfear. What kind of person was she? Or more specifically, was she a cold bitch, a spoiled princess, a pure maiden or simply a prude.

 

My hypothesis (fancy speak for stab in the dark) is that she was tremendously unnatainable, she'd have been showered with praise since she was born because of her looks and power. I think she was probably the daughter of a noble house, which increases serves to plant in her mind the belief that she was too good for just any mortal man.

 

And then theres Lews Therin Thelamon, the Tamyrlin, the greatest of men. Did Lanfear know him before he had donned all these coveted titles? Or did her obsession stem from the fact that he was the only man deserving of her, the greatest man for the greatest woman. It does seem pretty logical now when I've typed it out considering what little we know of them both.

 

Of course this completely derails what I was going to do with this post.. Damn it!

Lanfear was a slut and a lesbian! Her brazen acts of inflamed desire scorched the old world as her fiery tongue did the nubile flesh of her legions of harem girls!

Truer words have never been spoken. It really bothers me how many people say that lesbians hate men or just haven't been with a "real" man. Men are so insecure; they cannot fathom the concept that a woman does not need them so they make stupid claims to feel more self-important.

 

As for Lanfear...yeah she's a bitch. Don't want 'er. Cyndane better get ripped apart in the last book, unless she wants to wait another couple thousand years for the next Dragon to seduce

@Olivia I think there's incorrect balancing going on in the human condition. It's begun to be obvious that it's not always, or even mostly self-importance. A lot of people don't do it consciously. It's weird though, isn't it?

If all it took was Lews Therin rejecting her to drive her into crazyville, then I doubt Lanfear was ever all that stable (which is probably why she got dumped- theres nothing more annoying than a psycho stalker )

I don't have much to add to the whole "Lanfear" thing. I did enjoy the part between Selene and Rand though. I thought it was funny.
