"We shall see, Matrim"

Recommended Posts

There are two points to this topic.

1. People are throwing around "Matrim" way too dang much. Nobody called him that before. Moiraine said it once. Verin never once said it until The Gathering Storm. Now Mat even thinks it in his own PoV, which he never did before. Only Tuon, his family members, Nynaeve, and Egwene should be calling him Matrim.

But that's unimportant.

2. Mat says he's going to Caemlyn, Moiraine replies "We shall see." What does she think is going to change his mind? He's either going to Caemlyn or he isn't, and there are only 18 hours to change that. The only thing that could be on her mind here when using the wording "we shall see" is that she will change his mind with her Moiraine-like ways :D. I really hope we get to see that. It will probably be done off screen but I can still dream. Maybe she'll guilt trip him but without making it obvious.

If I had my way the first 20 chapters of the book would be Mat, Thom, and Moiraine hanging out in the forest, heh.

Regardless of whether she changes his mind, she is definitely planning on attempting it. I have a feeling Rand will see them in one of the rainbow swirls though. I go back and forth on that. Either he'll see them and Travel there immediately, or she'll arrive at the meeting and make a huge scene in front of everyone. Or we could get both. She could arrive with Rand and still make a huge scene in front of everyone.

Rand is secondary to Thom wedding. I have very selfish needs in this regard.

Also, Moiraine is rather used to getting her way. The only of the boys who seemed able to resist was Mat so, interesting mental battle there.

I'm not sure we'll see their wedding.

Even if we do, I can't say I'm excited for it. I swear if Perrin marries them I'm burning the book in effigy. And I swear if he says "off with you" one more time I'm burning the ashes of the book!

(Ok, I know Perrin wouldn't be the one to marry them, but I like complaining about him)

I just had a horrible thought. What if Elayne marries them? I can see that happening... and it's scary.

I don't expect to actually see the marriage. I also, until I actually read ToM, wanted Elayne to do the honors. Now I'm conflicted. I'd still kind of like her to do it just because she'd be the only one not all "WTF" over it because, well, it's Elayne.

I'm not sure if I want Perrin to marry the two of them, but I'm looking forward to some Moiraine/Perrin interaction. The Dragon Reborn is probably my 2nd-favorite book in the series, but I was actually a bit annoyed with Moiraine's treatment of Perrin during their journey to Tear; of all the Two Rivers folk, he deserved it the least. To his credit, he doesn't hold it against her, as indicated by his desire to accompany Mat and Thom on the rescue, and his internal thoughts concerning the possibility of Moiraine being alive ("Light, let it be so...", or something like that IIRC). I'm interested to hear Moiraine's thoughts concerning how Perrin has developed as a character.
