A Wilder?

Is Moiraine a Wilder? No. No she isn't. So why is it every four months people ask this question? How many times does one have to explain the difference between touching the Source before coming to the Tower and surviving past the point of danger. I get so prissy about this question, even more so when the person wondering spells her name Morrane.

But Moiraine was a wilder, was she not? I think Verin said so in the Great Hunt. And besides, she touched the true source and had a 'trick'. She could listen into other peoples conversations, so she had limited control over the O.P, therefore a Wilder.

So YOU'RE one of those people. Verin didn't call her a Wilder. Has Egwene ever been called one? No. Besides, Wilders have this thing called a block. Moiraine didn't have one.

I'm looking at the Great Hunt right now, Chapter 12. Verin's talking to the girls and tells them that once Moiraine knew that she could channel, she lept into it with a vengence. I assume that the Sun Palace kept Aes Sedai from time to time, it's possible that one of them discovered that Moiraine had been channeling and they sent her to the tower before she could become a wilder.

Exactly. Moiraine lived in the Sun Palace and was a member of the royal family. Chances are the White Tower knew she could channel before she did. They wouldn't have given her a chance to become a wilder. The minute she turned of age her butt was headed to Tar Valon.

Which meant that Moiraine would have had about half a year of secrecy, allowing her to learn how to evesdrop and channel floating spheres of light.

Moiraine herself states the weaves she taught herself weren't that useful. She might have discovered them by accident even. I have a feeling she used the eavesdropping to spy on her sibs. I know I would.

I'm starting to budge from my set opinion anyway. RJ needs to write more books concerning Moiraine.
