The Damodred Family...

Who is Caraline's Damodred relation?

 

He/She can't have been Laman, Meressin, or Aldecain. They left no heirs to inherit the Sun Throne, if they had, there wouldn't have been a succession. Was it Barthanes? There must of been quite a few siblings in one generation.

 

I suppose the other thing is the question of how old Caraline is. I'm guessing that she's more than 10 years younger than Moiraine as they look almost the same. She would have been too young to be considered for the throne. The really annoying thing is that Moiraine mentions going hawking with cousins when she was younger...so why weren't they considered for the throne? Could they, and Caraline, be second cousins?

Keep in mind how big a family House Damodred is. Moiraine is a part of the upper tier, Barthanes wasn't as high since he didn't have as many stripes. Chances are there are Damodreds who only have four or less of them. In other words, Moiraine has a ton of cousins. There is also her mother's side to deal with.

 

Now, Caraline is most likely a second cousin. Based on the fact that she looks like Moiraine and is of the same tier. And Cadsuane called them cousins.

 

And, it isn't so much that Moiraine's cousins weren't considered for the throne, they just weren't considered by the Aes Sedai.

I never thought of the Damodreds having different levels within the family, I always assumed that they all had the same number of stripes.

I never thought about it until I re-read some of the books.

 

And I know too much about this family.

Even so.... Sometimes I scare myself with all the Damodred knowledge I keep in me head.
