Love the Gleeman~

Recommended Posts

I just realized something. We don't seem to have a Thom thread. I'll merge this if we do end up having another one.

Anyway, yes. I love Thom. This does not mean that I like all he does, but still. For a minor character he is nicely flawed and interestingly developed.

And his stache. I have grown to love it.

I have been wondering if all of that hesitation was Thom wanting to make sure of her feelings and vise versa. It would explain the sudden oddness between them and the offer to give up the angreal. They were negotiating. Being sure of each other's intentions even though they both obviously were aware of each other's feelings.

I loved the tea packets too.

and I love this:

Thom Merrilin stepped forward grandly and held up one empty hand, turning it slowly. Suddenly he gestured with a flourish, and a dagger twirled between his fingers. The hilt slapped into his palm, and, abruptly nonchalant, he began trimming his fingernails.

A low, delighted laugh floated from Moiraine.

I had totally forgotten that scene, Deadsy, thanks for reminding me. Light, I'm such a fangirl; I'm imagining how sexy a "low, delighted laugh" would sound from Moiraine. :smit:

I will always be a Moiraine/Siuan fangirl, but I do still like Thom as a character. One of my favorite scenes of all when I first read WoT is in TSR when Moiraine surprises Thom in his room.

Mo: I KNO WHO U ARE!

Thom: NO U!

Mo: Touche. Now go to Tanchico with the brats.

Thom: BAWWWW... Okay.

I jest, but I really did think that scene was great, as we got to see the complexity and the humanity of both characters on levels we hadn't really seen before. Thom was pretty cool in TEotW, but then my opinion of him dropped off in TGH and TDR. That scene is when I really started liking him again. It was so cool to me on my first read to see two political maneuver-masters trying to outfox each other. And Moiraine wins, of course, but it buoyed my opinion of Thom to see that he could almost hold his own against Moiraine. And also that she was reluctant to play her trump card by using Thom's pain over Owyn to manipulate him into going; it showed she cared for him at least a little.

Yes, that entire scene is awesome. Shadow Rising was an awesome book all around for her. I also love her chat with Nynaeve, Egwene, and Elayne.
