What makes up a Moiraine

Recommended Posts

Something priceless is something really valuable, therefor something ageless is really old. :mat:

And anyways, there is nothing wrong with being ancient. I'm sure Moiraine really enjoys it...though, it must be hard being out with her lady friends who already have grandchildren and she's still struggling with the husband bit. :thommoi:

You know when I brought up aged wine I was thinking of the fact that wine is suppose to get better with age (and more expensive) and sophisticated people (like Moiraine) are always drinking that instead of the lowly beer.

CLEARLY NO ONE ELSE AGREES WITH ME :runcry:

I won't admit to Anna winning this, except I think she really has. :P

Moiraine was friendly with Lord Algemar too, however you spell it. She was practically chummy (going by Aes Sedai standards) with a couple of the Wise Ones too, plus the AS mentioned and Min. She got along with the Green Man. He counts! I defend Mo's ability to make friendly with others despite her tendency to check out of their lives for a while. :thommoi:

Moiraine's friends with other Aes Sedai (like Myrelle and Sarene and others whose names I can't spell). Unless we mean the other kind of lady friend.

You're right. So, in my humble opinion, Moiraine has three female friends. Siuan, Myrelle, and Anaiya.

I would call Min a "friendly acquaintance," and Moiraine was more motherly toward her.

The Wise Ones were more of a "mutual respectful" relationship. In that scene in the sweat tent I didn't think they seemed "friend-ish." They couldn't be friends, because they had different goals and that made them distrustful of each other.

I agree with you (Romanda) that she could be friendly but she had too much important crap to do to actually have friends. That'll change after the LB though. I've decided that Moiraine, Thom, Darlin, Caraline, Min, and Rand can go hunting together =oP

There are other Aes Sedai who thought of Moiraine as a friend and vice versa. Moiraine might not be Miss Popularity but she isn't that friendless. Besides, someone as politically smart as her would know how friendships can help you out when you have difficult tasks.

With the WO, I think you're right in that they had different agendas, but going by what we didn't see from Moiraine I would still call her attitude toward them practically chummy.

Here are a group of people without any respect for her whole nation of people because of the actions of one leader, and yet we didn't see a glimmer of the kind of attitude we've later seen from Aes Sedai towards the Aiel and from the Aiel toward her. They did argue with each other, from PoVs we get from Rand and Egg, but that doesn't prove a lack of individual good feelings in any way.

Moiraine's older than Min, but there's no way I'd call her relationship with her motherly. Min seems like she thinks of her like a kinda scary friend.

I want to read about them hunting!

I'd say her and Amys were either friends are heading down that road.

Mo has plenty of Aes Sedai friends. Maybe not a lot, but more than three. I'd go with six or seven. Afterall she doesn't know that Sheriam is a beheaded Darkfriend just yet, so technically she still counts.

I guess what I'm zoning in on with Min and "motherly" is Moiraine patting her on the head repeatedly ^_^. (I really liked that for some reason).

and I think my outlook is just different and we can leave it at that :P

In no way do I think it's a bad thing that she doesn't have many friends though. Nor do I think she's bad at making them. It's because she's so freaking dedicated to saving the world that she can't be bothered until her job is done :)

Oh, and she's perfectly lovely to strangers unless they annoy her. One of the best AS in that regard.

I would put her lady friend count at five (Siuan, Myrelle, Sheiram, Sarene, and Anaiya), and all of those were made in the 70s before she left the Tower for Rand hunting.

She seems to be almost-but-not-quite friends with Lady Amalisa. So she doesn't count but I like saying her name. Or maybe they just got it on a couple times, I don't know. I don't judge.

I'd like to think Lan is her bestest buddy. Mostly because they spent twenty years together. And because I hate Siuan. Probably mostly the latter.

(I'm currently suffering from a sleep deprivation headache and cannot be held responsible for whatever I have just typed)
