*Obsesses on Laughter*

Romanda said I should post more so I don't have to be a Gaidin =oP. So here's me posting more.

 

I love it when Moiraine laughs, because she never laughs. Are there any other examples (sans New Spring) besides these two? Oh, and bitter laughter doesn't count. 'Cause that's like saying she laughed but she was pissed off. (Sometimes she laughs bitterly when dealing with Rand). Actually, I will go on a tangent about that now.

 

"You have handled me like a puppet, made me dance the way you wanted, from the day we met. The only times I've been free of you were either when you were far away or when I ignored you. And you make even that hard."

 

Her laugh was as silvery as the moon above, but bitterness tinged it.

 

Since Rand basically NEVER (EVER) did what Moiraine wanted, I feel like in her head she was thinking that what she really wanted to say was: "You are out of your f*ing mind Rand al'Thor. Name one bloody thing you did that I wanted. I am cussing in my brain now, which is something I never do except for the occasional 'Light.' I have lost my temper visibly more times in the last year than in the previous twenty years combined. You make me crazy! 'Made me dance?' I will make you dance. *stab stab stab*."

 

 

 

Anyhoo:

 

Thom Merrilin stepped forward grandly and held up one empty hand, turning it slowly. Suddenly he gestured with a flourish, and a dagger twirled between his fingers. The hilt slapped into his palm, and, abruptly nonchalant, he began trimming his fingernails.

A low, delighted laugh floated from Moiraine.

 

"As difficult as that?" Moiraine murmured. Her hands slipped into the water — and a moment later came out with a splash, holding a fat trout that thrashed the surface. She laughed with delight as she tossed it up onto the bank

I got the impression that Moiraine's laugh was bitter because she feels like the real puppet, having spent most of her adult life searching for him. Rand's Taverenness has everyone else dancing, and yet he feels like a puppet. But, yeah the *stab stab stab* was probably going through her mind.

You read so cleverly between the lines. You should do it lots lots more!

I imagine there was a stabby dagger with Rand's name on it in Moiraine's mind too.

Thom said that she laughed at his quips. She also probably had grim pleasure when she tormented Lan with those ants and things in NS, but she didn't lol. Maybe she rofl inside of herself.

 

That fish catching thing... That was one of the few times she laughed because of something she did. I want to read more of that. (Come spam chatterbox with us too, deadsy! )

Ya, I love it. She was like "Yay, I did it. And Perrin said it was difficult! Ha!"

 

I get the impression she has a braggy streak, but it's only when it involves something that "regular" people can do. She's like "nya, Perrin and Loial, I can do things without channeling too" and she's super proud of herself.
