Aww, Deadsy, you are so much more clever than me. It's a wonderfully tense story and really good flash fiction for getting right in to it and all, but I don't get the twelve bit :/ Is it a number old people like lots or something?

Ooh, neat story. Loved the build-up and the sort of humour. I didn't understand the "twelve" bit either, though.

I've decided that's the point. I don't know if you've been around someone with alzheimer's in its' final stages but there are a lot of wtf moments. It doesn't make sense in the story because it didn't make sense in real life.

Hmm, I see. Interesting. No, I haven't been around anyone with Alzheimer's, so I guess it just took me time to get it! I liked the story anyway.

I was looking for this in fanfiction to comment last night but you've got it in the right section!

 

Someone in my family had this disease and lived with it for years. I got the randomness of 12 because of that and it wasn't hard to follow. Something made me wonder whether the main char's gran had asked for this years before and the char had just decided she could do this for her. Because of her deciding to research this first and wear black down to her underwear I thought of her as very young.

I love the build-up too and especially the open ended quality of the finale. To me it seemed the point of it wasn't whether or not she went through with this but rather the lengths someone would go to for a loved one who suffers a disease like this. I love that she was angry about her gran being left alone even though it allowed her to enter the room without notice. It let me know she was doing this out of compassion.
