Well, 5 books after killing Moiraine RJ is ready to kill again. Personally i find it really dumb that maybe 90% of the main characters in books and movies don't die (or at least not until they kill the bad guy). I don't understand, the fact that someone is a main character doesn't mean that he is invulnerable, although i know that if the main char dies the movie/book would end. But WoT has much more than one main char and for 11 books the only one of them who died/dissappeared was one of the two that i really cared about, that i wanted to read about much more than the others. And he thinks of killing the second one now....

I saw the official review and there it is said something about Nyneave paying some price or something. And judjing by the review and the spoilers (which strangely come out at the same time) RJ could kill Lan with no regret:

...your heroine might have played out her [Nyneave's] biggest plot point by helping to cleanse saidin, but she stole the show in this book with one particular chapter about half-way through. All of you will know which chapter it is. After that powerful, emotional chapter, I had to put the book down for a while.

If i was the author i would probably kill everybody exept Rand (maybe even him) before Tarmon Gai'Don. You cannot survive through 10 books with luck. Oh, wait, the mass would not like him being killed and not having a happy end. So ok, lets give them the happy end and kill someone who i know they like!

A high death toll story never would get very far... Because as soon as you start to like a character they'd die.

No author I've read has that. Tolkien has Gandalf(but he doesn't count), Boromir, Theoden, and Denethor die in LOTR, not a lot. In the first the Shannara books by Terry Brooks:

Book 1: One major character dies.

Book 2: Alot people die, one or two major ones die, but that's still toward the end.

Book 3: The only character from all three books dies halfway through the book(he was my favorite too, , cynical magic figure, the only monotone character that seems filled out), after that only one other major dies, still toward the end.

Obi Wan Kenobi: In my experiance, there is no such thing as luck. (just felt like quoting that)

I do believe the char will go out with an absolute she-bang, taking out half the blight or something like that, and that is as good a surmise as any,... if you ask me.

And it would be a kind of poetic justice that what you say should follow marie,...

It had to happen in one of books,.. but this is very disturbing,... I dare say the most since moiraine died/vanished,....

I do not expect all the major chars to be alive till TG,... and at TG almost all will die, I even have a ending ready in my head.

I don't think that you're right. You definetly have a point but i just don't assume that "A high death toll story never would get very far". Why? I'm not talking to kill everyone with one hit or in the end of the first book. But in WoT you have so many main characters. I'm on the 10th book (for the first time although i've read 1 to 9 two times) and 'til the middle of the book it's the same day. He shows the different reactions for that what is happening. 300 pages of the same day because there is much more than one main storyline. 3 years book time and about 10 people f*ck up with the Shadow almost constantly and could never be killed. Oh yes, they've been on the verge of death but still. At Rand have been fired about 4 or 5 arrows from expirienced bowmen but he could never die. Even one of the times he couldn't catch saidin but still... And everything is explained from the 'Ta'veren' (sp?) thing. Ta'veren here, Ta'veren there. Well...

The storyline of the first book was the fact that admire WoT. The big guy who is supposed to save the world is... weak. The whole book he only runs and runs and has nothing else to do. In other stories, those characters run for the first 100 pages then become so powerfull and kill the bad guys and... LAME.

I don't know have you ever watched Mortal Kombat. I never liked it actually but i watched the series which had nice storylines. And i saw the end of the series. Everybody who was good died and the shadow fell upon the world. Well, what's wrong with that? I have to tell you that i admire the producers just because of this. They were not afraid to do it.

 Well i hope this didn't sounded offensive. I just shared my point of view, and like always i did it in more than two lines. I understand many people who say that doesn't want to read my long posts...
