Quick Gun-related Survey

Recommended Posts

I want to shoot a gun.

I LOVE taking "virgins" to the gun range! I am a very competent (read NRA, Glock, and Colt certified), but more importantly, very patient instructor :o

Sometimes when anti-gun folks argue with me, I'll kindly offer to take them shooting so they can overcome their obvious fears. Most of the time, the folks are either too set in their political myopia or simply very afraid of weapons, but every once in a while someone will bite.

The cool thing about that is most of them get down with the sickness! The rest have learned a little about respecting the ownership of firearms, even if they do not agree with it. But everyone HAS FUN, and if you're not putting food on the table or fighting an overzealous government ( :P ), having fun is what shooting is all about!

Tell me 45, is there something special about guns? I mean, you can have alotta fun throwing sticks at passing cars with your friends... that takes aim and everythig too.

And gay men loves to read guns and ammo... Here is a picture of a man studying reaction times of firemen... and a fireman. They met at the firestation and are sitting up late that night reading guns and ammo.

LOL

Vertex you're a real piece of work, my friend!

I suppose there is something special. I can't really put my finger on it, but maybe it's because it's not only fun, but it could also prove to be a useful skill someday. Throwing a rock at something for food or self-defense may not be the most practical or wisest course of action!

But when I'm out there the LAST things I'm thinking about are deer and jack-booted thugs. Shooting is sort of like playing darts, only with fireworks!

And if you've ever read Guns and Ammo, you too would know that it is a shitty publication, based solely on which gun manufacturer can pay them the most to showcase their shitty products. I mostly read Shotgun News or Guns and Weapons for Law Enforcement, but after a while you start to read the same old stuff. In the gun world, there's not TOO much in the way of cutting edge technology, unless you start talking about optics or lights.

Answers to the first post:

A) .50 BMG, NATO ball round : Often used in heavy military machine guns throughout the world, and sparsely in the civilian community as a long range competition rifle cartridge or big game cartridge.

B) .308 Winchester, jacketed soft point : popular small deer cartridge.

C) .223 Remington, full metal jacket : popular military and police small arms cartridge, also used extensively in the civilian sector for prairie dog and similarly-sized animal control. Spurned for deer hunting due to its relatively low power.

D) .22 Long Rifle hollow point : very common cartridge worldwide, mostly used for competition and small animal control.

E) .45 Automatic Colt Pistol, Hydra-Shok Jacketed Hollow Point : found most often in the American continents, used primarily for self-defense in handguns.

F) 12-gauge Jackhammer Brenneke slug : shotgun breaching round, used mostly by police and military for busting door hinges or heavy-gauge padlocks.

The simple answer is that none of the cartridges pictured are used in "assault weapons", save for maybe C. I just wanted to get an impression as to what people conjured in their minds when given the phrase. Other places, most people put letter A!

Vertex you're a real piece of work' date=' my friend![/quote']

45, that took you time, but you got there in the end! B)

About shooting, to be honest, I quite enjoyed it, just like I enjoy cricket or making web designs! I was good at it and it was fun. I never have (or will, I hope!) shot at a living thing, am opposed to "social hunting", and opposed to laws that allow people keep firearms at home.

Oh, and here's one question I've not yet got an answer to: What is an "assault" weapon? All weapons can be used for assault!!

What is an "assault" weapon? All weapons can be used for assault!!

I am glad you said that. Here in America' date=' the phrase "assault weapon" was a buzzphrase used by the media to incite fear about firearms. It was used extensively when those kids shot up their school in Littleton, Colorado, then again when bank robbers held up a Bank of America in North Hollywood, then again when those idiots shot at random people in Virginia a few years ago.

Point is, your observation is exactly right -- all weapons can be used for assault, and they don't even have to be guns! They made an "Assault Weapons Ban" that was in effect for 10 years (whereby the government defined the phrase to include any number of civilian legal military-style semiautomatic weapons such as the Colt AR-15, domestic and foreign versions of the SAR-1, the FN-FAL, etc). The law basically disallowed me to possess "evil" features on a certain number of my military-looking guns, including:

-Collapsible/folding shoulder stocks

-Bayonet lugs

-Flash hiders

-pistol grips

-removable magazines

The irony of it was that it singled out military style weapons and made them comply to these specs, and did nothing to (typically) more powerful hunting weapons, and also nothing to deter Dylan Klebold, Eric Harris, Larry Phillips, or John Malvo from committing their crimes, [u']which were perpetrated AFTER the ban took effect, with weapons that complied with the standards set by the AWB[/u] (except for the North Hollywood Shootout -- Larry Phillips and Emil Matasareanu used fully-automatic rifles, which were not addressed by this ban, but by the National Firearms Act of 1934).

In September of 2004, the 10 year ban sunset, or expired. Full-auto weapons are still illegal, as they have been for many decades. The only thing that has changed is that the guns legislated under the AWB can now be manufactured/modified to possess the evil features listed above.

Since then, America has been wracked with scores of drive-by bayonettings. rolleyes.gif

I see...

It always bothered me that in one game (I can't remember which!) I got this assault rifle and I couldn't figure out why it was so-called as I could do much more "assaulting" damage with other stuff! :-p

And now I feel like playing Deus Ex for some reason B)

  • 3 weeks later...

yes in deux ex that weapon was grossly underpowered.

I believe it is chambered for 7.62x51 mm cartridges, which is the international designation for the American .308 Winchester cartridge, or letter B in the picture on the first page. In spite of this, it takes like 11 head shots to kill someone with that damn gun.
