There's cultural reasons why that happens, although it's been a long time since I've taken my Japanese pop culture class so I couldn't really tell you. ;P I personally like it, but then I think the way the Japanese pronounce vowels is pretty so hearing them sing in English (assuming they can sing-not a fan of those really, really, really bad pop acts on anime) makes me go "awwwww so cute!".
