What Moiraine chose (Spoilers)

Recommended Posts

I was sort of stunned, so I stupidly let it pass. She was utterly mad, and had problems of her own - did eventually report her when she pretended she couldn't understand me because of my accent, however. :P

Wow, what a way to attack your voice in multiple ways. Nice silencing technique there. :sar: I'm glad you didn't blame yourself after experiencing her brand of crazy. (Maybe at least not long term blaming)

@Asmo, Olivia - I agree, this is interesting to read. I like hearing people's thoughts on it. I didn't realize I called Jan "Bug"! Yes, I meant Jan.

@Liv - I'm glad you haven't experienced harassment like that but the problem of having to be with a man for protection can be an issue with chivalry too. If the men who have a problem disrespecting women didn't do it so much there would be no need of a protector. The problem is the people doing the disrespecting, not with you. :getcookie: (or with you being alone or with a man) After all, we are adults and not children.

@Jan - Your nickname slipped out! I still don't know why Vertex wanted to call you it. Did he say? ... Also, cookie

Yes, and Moiraine made lots of choices. She told Lan she was going to keep him alive early on in the books. I tend to think of being a warder or AS as having a vocation. Well, that's wrong according to what the Amyrlin suggested later in the books. It's more like a job now, but early on it seemed more like a calling. What I'm getting at is that it's not really a lifestyle. It's more professional. Moiraine was in the leader in their respective duties, except that we only got to see Lan drawing away from her and their mission from the beginning because of Nynaeve.

In one way Moiraine made decision that determined Lan being alive or dead in the future, but in another way his life is tied into his professional calling anyway. I can't hate Moiraine for doing it without his permission because it was sort of their jobs to behave that way. It's a funny thing being a Warder though. I don't know if I like it! Keeping arrows away from AS's backs is excellent and good, but you have to be a certain kind of individual.

@ Katie, G-17 and I are not always together when we go out because he "has" to be or b/c i need him to be (i just really wanted to clarify that. hes not really my Warder :sar: nor does my, uh, identity require him to be :P). we just kinda tend to do everything together when he gets home from work (and we share a car so its gone during the day) so it just sort of works out that way. but you know im stretching my brain back to college *brain feels very un-limber* lol, and i did deal with one crazy man who thought he literally had to protect me and save me from another man i was engaged to (who was normal!) which resulted in him doing some very bizarre stuff and almost violent stuff to the other guy. if there was ever a moment of chivalry gone wrong, that was it. it was a case of a man driven to obtain to his own ends with a woman under the guise of chivalry. i do go out alone every now and then though, and to be honest i think men tend to treat me differently because of my appearance. (not that i look scary! its just the way that i dress has changed the way men react to me/treat me since before i used to dress this way (and in a good way to my preference)) i get doors held open and small things but always with a very formal air/expression. i think thats why i dont deal with that sort of harassment. men are friendly but sort of "keep their distance."

another few clarifications since we're sort of touched this topic: 1) i dont cover my face but i dont have a problem with it and 2) i dressed like this before i found G 17. me no child although me sometimes act like one.:getcookie:
