Some guy's pants fell down?

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I really am starting to think I'm crazy, and not just because I forgot how old I was yesterday. I just did an NS reread and I could have SWORN that there was a scene in there where she made some guy's pants fall down with the power in the common room of an inn. And then like that never happened in the book as I just finished it.

Did I just not only make that scene up in mind, but then actually insert it into the book and believe it existed there? Please tell me perhaps it just happened in another book (although i can't really imagine older more stately Moiraine taking down guy's pants with the power. although I wouldn't put it past her totally :P )

or maybe i just skipped a page?

I recall that being in the novella but it might have been cut from the novel? I'm not sure (it might be in the novel...Olivia might know for sure) but that scene did happen.

Edit: Although it happened in a street, not indoors. And...did you ever read the novella? :P Because if not, then it is in the novel as well! Somewhere. Don't make me be productive and fish for my book.

Well this interesting little thought led me to actually finding out that New SPring was originally a short story in the book "Legends" and I was just browsing through the first part of it and yes it did happen on the street to some Tairen guy! so i was most satisfied that i am not crazy but was doubly satisified to read a some little tidbits that were not in the full novel. some foreshadowing of Rand/Two Rivers! has anyone ever read it? i always wondered how Mo ended up in Two Rivers (was it just the last place she didn't check?) but it seems that Kari Al Thor and Tam were in her little book but whether or not they had a child was doubtful, so she probably left them till last. so interesting!

I read it back in the day before NS the novel came out. I have always suspected RJ took out the Kari al'Thor reference because it seemed a little too...obvious, and that he changed his mind on how Moiraine ended up in the Two Rivers. In fact, I seem to recall him saying somewhere she lost that first book? Oh man, my WoT kung fu is not good today.

I never read the novella, but I can say with certainty that there is no scene in NS the novel where Moiraine takes someone's breeches off, nor are the al'Thors mentioned. I remember a scene where some Tairen leers at her in the street, but she brushes him off by displaying the colored stripes on her dress, indicating that she is a noble and waaay too good for him to even try hitting on - so maybe that is the scene that RJ wrote differently in the original novella.

I had no idea the novel and novella were different except for length, which is why I never bothered reading the novella once I got NS the novel. I may well go buy the novella now just to see how many differences I can spot. Often the "little tidbits" in RJs writing are just as amusing/interesting as the major scenes.

sidenote: I've seen things like "Google fu" and "Archives fu" but never "WoT kung fu" :) I <3 you, Marie :P

Aaaah! Yes, that scene is different than the novella then! Moiiraine is busy thinking about being caught by Aes Sedai and gets all paranoid and thinks she sees someone so she gasps, and the guys make some comment about women and air up skirts and Moiraine does a glance backward and unlaces his pants. Something to that effect. I think he should have kept that scene.

Oh, yes, he definitely should have! :P

I'm still laughing! xDDD

Is the novella really that different? I mean, I'm already thinking about buying it, just this scene is enough to convince me I want it.
