  1. Oh my God, he's the cutest!!!!

I see now, I was confused. That's Mo and Thom's kid. He actually looks like what I imagined a kid of theirs would. He has curls but blond hair. His features are delicate.

And, I repeat, that kid (of his!) is still the cutest!

  2. You can't excuse the Blue Ajah by bringing up another. The Browns seek knowledge; that's why so many different types are in that Ajah. People leave the Browns alone because no one likes to talk to a know-it-all, esp. if that know-it-all loses track of her thoughts.

Blues seek their own personal causes, ok, well name an Aes Sedai that doesn't. How does Gitara count as a good Blue? She died before we saw anything besides Moiraine's biased view. Moiraine also looked up to a member of the Black Ajah, but that doesn't mean she was a great Blue either.

Excuse the Blue Ajah? That makes it sound like they are a crime. That is just silliness. I brought up the Brown Ajah because it is similar to the Blue in that nothing is strictly defined in the way that some other Ajahs might be.

Forget it. You win, everyone else loses. The Blue Ajah sucks, all Browns are a pain in the behind and aren't worth talking to because they are so terribly annoying.

  3. I don't believe that they have a lack of direction. They put every Aes Sedai within their Ajah to some use, and they each have personal causes. Browns are pretty much allowed to wander aimlessly and can seem directionless, but there are librarians, teachers, researchers, scientists, etc. all in that Ajah.

  4. I don't believe Blues are the result of the Tower losing it's way. Blues are more of the moral core or compass of the Tower.

Moiraine says this about Blues, and I think it's important to remember:

The Blue sought to right wrongs, which was not always the same as seeking justice, like Greens and Grays.

Moiraine talks quite often about the nature of things in relation to right and wrong. You can see she has put quite a lot of thought into that very subject, and it important to her to see that she does what is actually right for the situation instead of what she thinks is right. It probably wasn't best for her in terms of the White Tower to keep Rand away from them or limit news of where he was going, but she came to understand that giving him over to the Tower was not what was best. Originally, in New Spring, she and Siuan do talk about having him kept at the Tower, and their foremost reasoning was because it would be the safest thing for him and everyone else, not so that the White Tower could gain. Moiraine also believed that it was wrong of the Reds to Gentle Owyn in that way, and she tried to right that wrong by promising Thom the names. She did it in a way so that Thom would go with Elayne, but she didn't actually have to promise him anything. She was trying to make up for what happened, and show him that all Aes Sedai are not the same.

You could probably say that not all Blues are like that, and Moiraine is more of an example of what a good Blue should try to be more like... but then that just shows that the Ajah itself is meant to be like that in the first place. You can't logically say that Blues are useless, if the formation of the Ajah was to make sure that women as noble in action as Moiraine, Siuan, Tamra, Gitara, Leane (even though she became a Green - while she was a Blue she was an excellent one), and others had a place to shine.

  5. You were so secretive! ;P

You should find a ducktail to wear for real and I should find kittie ears, and jannie should find cute buggie somethings and Nik should have a puppy tail. That way we would all recognize each other in airports and everyone would think we were strange. *giggles* Laura could wear a red hat.. and I think she should also wear a small bunny nose if she visits after all.

  6. I guess it was a way to compromise back when they were starting up the White Tower. It would be better to go back to the old ajah system where the Aes Sedai would form groups for a short period of time. It seemed like they all had professions back then, though. Maybe that is what they will need to replace Ajahs in the future.

  7. I think causes are a specific function. The nature of them is that they are entirely personal. PoVs from Blues aren't exactly abundant, and the one's we've read have been from Siuan and Moiraine's perspective. We know about their causes, and the importance of them.

Whites don't have to go out and do something for everyone else to have a use, and Blues don't have to be all like Moiraine to be useful in their Ajah. ;P The cause is use. Maybe a Blue has made it a personal mission to protect White Tower interests in one of the Borderland countries. That's useful too.

  8. What have the Whites done? I think the fault lies in Robert Jordan for not explaining the different things Blues have done, but can you really fault him that much for not going even more off the topic of the main story to describe each little thing an Aes Sedai has done in her life? Although, I would like that! ;P

I would imagine they'd be doing the same sorts of things that people who believe in causes do today, and have done. There's a certain personality type that not a lot of people understand, and those types work behind the scenes to get things done in terms of what they believe in. You could say that Doctors Without Borders are cause fighters like the Blues are described as being, because they work in their profession, but toward a cause rather than for personal gain. There needs to be idealists in the world, and the Blues fit into that.

If you do not believe in the system of Ajahs, naturally your perceptions would be clouded. ;P

  9. What would you suggest an Ajah to replace them would be?

I do not believe that Blues are pointless in the least. I'm impressed with what a lot of Blues have done, but I still see the Ajah in itself as useful. They are an extremely small Ajah, almost the smallest, so that tends to put things in perspective a little. It's not as if thousands of women are sitting around on their backsides doing nothing but reading reports from Eyes and Ears.
