  1. DEMANDRED! The only male Forsaken still surviving (in his original body). That dude's been up to some scary stuff, and like Verin, we still don't really know what. So stoked for him to finally reveal some of his plans. Certainly has something to do with Taim and the Asha'man. Though I get there are other bits we've only had foreshadowed but still don't know.

On a different note, I was rereading Fires of Heaven and I find I really wish Asmodean was kept alive a bit longer... such as fabulous character. (Of course I'm bias)

  2. I always enjoyed Moiraines Machinations because they were meant to help Rand. The others usually did what they did for personal gain. That's of course very human, but I found them to be more and more unpleasant as the story progressed.

The few like Cadsuane understand and fight for a greater good. Them I enjoy. In some ways I think Verin is the freakiest and by extension coolest manipulator. We STILL don't quiet know her angle. Though she's been very helpful to Rand, even to the extent that she does... questionable things. Can't wait for that thread to tie up.

  3. You didn't hurt my feelings. I think you clarified your thought very well, and I largely agree with it. I don't think anyone should try to demean another. When I think of chivalry I think more in terms of your earlier points of treating people well.

Rand's flaw is more then once pointed out to him by almost every woman he encounters at one point or another.

Damn this is a good debate, I need to think more on it.

    Who is Bug?

  4. Hehe, I agree there. When he couldn't bring himself to do anything but defend against Lanfear. Ummm one of my very favorite parts in the whole saga. Everyone was at their most awesomeness.

And most of all it cemented Moiraine as the character we all love so much. I loved her before that, but it was a moment that clarified that she never had anything but Rands best interest at heart. So much so that she was willing to die for it.

She was the one truly loyal to him and understood there were works greater than them both. A moment of silence for her sacrifice and her much awaited return!

  5. They explain waaayyyy back in EotW that men from Emond's Field have a soft spot for harming women. A lot of guys do actually (in real life).

Sure it's politically incorrect but when it comes to these matters a lot of guys go subconscious cave man defend the fire bullshit. It's a wiring issue. Rand may even be wrong but it's not a condescending thing. He's just wrestling with his sense of goodness and duty. If he had his way (as is impressed upon in the earlier stories) he wouldn't hurt anyone. But while time changes him a few threads to his innocence remain.

  6. That sub plot always bothered me as well.

Personally I sometimes wished that Mordin had killed Sevenna and all the rest of them in passing (as he considered in COS)

I hated Galina after LOC, but she was an excellent villian! RJ actually got so dark and excessive with her torment that I wanted to see her escape. He made me feel for a character I didn't like, but in the end I detested the Shaido far more then I ever did her.

Seriously, sometimes I'd go back and reread parts of LOC just to remind myself why I disliked her in the 1st place.

I suppose it could be argued that Galina got what she deserved. But in the end the Shaido Aiel pissed me off to no end, and while the Seanchan freak me out sometimes, I still enjoyed their hook-up with Perrin.

Stories of slaves (what the Shaido and the Seanchan are all about) are incredibly ugly to me.

  7. Good stuff! Then your likely to really enjoy the end.

I agree with you on Min. She keeps Rand from totally losing it. If he were alone, he would.

But I've always been a fan of those two. (Not usually a popular comment here)

LOL, anyway, Path of Daggers has some cool stuff happen that is built towards in Crown of Swords. At this rate you may find yourself enjoying them all. The next one is good. For my money the one after is great!

    Book ten.... I won't say.

Book 11 also very strong. :)

  8. @ Jan - Aww I want to go to Wales!

@ Liverella - Hehe, who's stalking who now?

I live in NYC now. I went to school in San Francisco from 01-06.

I was born in Conn. See many places. But I do like answering questions.

    Other facts

    Birth: Jan, 1982

    Can't eat peanut butter.

My avatar is actually my face (though its not that golden in person.... not usually anyway.)

  9. Yeah, just when Rand had really lost it with all Aes Sedai (not surprising considering the whole box torture kidnapping)

But Cadsuane brings a whole new element that affirms why (TRULY) the Aes Sedai have run the world so long. She helps keep them respectful. Although I sometimes thinks she kicks Rand when he's down a bit too often. But her fearlessness is freakin awesome.

I won't spoil anything but wait until the climax of Winters Heart! As cool as anything since the first four books (and she has a lot to do with that)!

  10. Hmmmm, feeling suddenly sheepish. Never been to Skype.

@ Jan, I do apologize for the gender misconception... although Jan (I remember it being short for January) I mistook you for one of mine, so please consider it a complement. :mwahaha:

I my further defense like Aes Sedai, we are not always the most obvious bunch. Anywho, I'm gonna go find some of these stalker sites and learn more about ALL OF YOU! Muah Ha HA! Then we'll see who really are women.....
