Moiraine/Thom

I've noticed a few readers being all "WHAT IS THIS? I DON'T EVEN" about the Moiraine and Thom love affair/engagement.

 

I know given this forum people will be biased.

 

I also know given this forum a number of people still dream of Moiraine turning lesbian and ditching Thom.

 

so I ask: do you feel M/T's romance was well developed throughout the series?

I don't think WoT is very clever at romances at all. Lan and Nyny felt very odd to me too,

I think the only well developed romance in this entire series is Moridin/Rand.

You have to keep in mind while reading it that Moiraine is Moiraine.... Aes Sedai and Cairhienin (who hate PDA). Not only is she AS, she's Blue, and she's just found the DR after 20 years of searching. Romance is the last thing on her mind. Then you have to think about Thom, who hates Aes Sedai. Then see how they interact. They should be completely indifferent to each other, or dislike each other, but they don't. That's something by itself. There was about one hint per book until she went through the doorway.

I'd have loved it a lot more if they dated properly, had lots of hot sex, met relatives/parents, moved in together, fought tons about wallpaper, toilet lids, and toothpaste, and finally had a rushed wedding following an accidental pregnancy But I guess that would make it not WoT...

You are so sweet for considering Moiraine's awkwardness But I think she'd want to meet them. A wedding just isn't proper unless you meet family anyhow. Though, I kinda think Thom's parents are long dead and burried.

Maybe not at first...but he did save her and you usually get to marry the princess if you save her. And I think Thom can be very charming with courts.

Haha, yes. I wonder how it would affect Elayne's position if that became common knowledge. The man who murdered the former king, creating a civil war, thereby allowing Elayne to put forward her claim... is now promoted to Elayne's Court-Bard. Hmm... I'm sure the Cairhienin would read something into that.

Moiraine is Cairhienin and Aes Sedai. Given that, her behavior in Thom's bedroom (the scandal!) at the Stone of Tear was basically like any normal WoT girl sitting on his lap. She just had way more important things to do, like make sure Rand attacked Illian.
