That's very observant. Could it be that they rescued Moiraine's evil sister by mistake? In another story, there was a nice brother that didn't use contractions and an evil brother that did.

Speaking of anachronistic speech patterns...remember this comment from Setalle to Mat?

 

"I see.... So you're using boots as a metaphor for the onus of responsibility and decision placed upon the aristocracy as they assume leadership of complex political and social positions."

 

I wanted to cringe when I read that one.

 

Message to Mr. Sanderson, Harriet Rigney, Team Jordan, and Tor/Forge: Editing is a good thing. Let's see more of it in the next book, mkay?

I always thought Moiraine talked funny; now I realize it's because she reminds me of those essays I had to write in college without any contractions.

I always liked the way Moiraine talked. Although I never noticed the lack of contractions. Now I will, or would, if she was still doing it.

I thought there was something off about the way she was talking but didn't realize it was the contraction thing.

 

This makes me want to go back to the sections with Rand in Cairhien to see if those nobles are as formal too or whether it is another oddball quirk of Her Adorableness.
