mah updated cast list (lots o images)

So it's been a while since I did one of these. I don't care about ages. Actually I do. I want slightly older to older actresses to play AS. Because acting experience matters and I want the AS to be badass. And I have a crush on most or all of these women. There is that too.

 

Cadsuane - Tilda Swinton

 

 

Because it's a mindtrip. She's younger than most of the other actresses in this list but would be playing the oldest AS. Tilda Swinton would rock the shiznit out of the role damn.

 

Moiraine - Zhang Ziyi

 

 

Ok. She's gorgeous. This is most of the reason. But also? She has presence. When she is on the screen you don't pay much attention to anyone else. Because she has talent. Because she will kick your butt with her eyes and you will thank her for it. That is all.

 

Elaida - Mary McDonnell

 

 

This woman is 59 years old. Let's see her play an awesome badass lush sloshing her drink and not dying for once and being a hot mess with her lesbian gf AS.

 

Verin - Helen Mirren

 

 

Shut up! I want Helen Mirren to have a substantial role and she can play anyone anywhere anytime. She can play Verin! She would be spectacular. She would be the sauce of awesome. Helen Mirren is the perfect Verin. Yes.

Helen Mirren looks or acts nothing like Verin. *blush* I just think that since her voice is so good for Verin she could play a more slender but equally badass version.

Oh, *shames* I might have seen those movies, now that I think about it. But they did not look the same. That's the point of acting so it isn't my fault.

I did not know she was 59. I never looked. I assumed 45ish.

 

I never thought of her as Elaida but she could play anyone. I can see Helen as Verin but she'd have to wear clothes that make her look bigger. I've always thought Kathy Bates should be Verin though.

But if not Verin, who? Erm, actually... I would kinda like to see her as a straight up good guy even though she can play evil so well. Maybe dubiously good, like Vandene (or whichever sister was not BA. I can't remember).

 

And Mary, yeah. She is so great at making characters relatable even if it's a small role or the character does some pretty despicable things, so why not Elaida? Elaida's not all bad. Or other people. Birgitte? Girl Thom? But! That would be so wrong. Maybe...

Neither Vandene or Adeleas were Black Ajah. I think you remember one of them as Black Ajah because everyone thought it would be awesome if one of them was Black Ajah. I bet if RJ could have rewritten it, he would have made it that way instead of... S... whatever her name was. See, I can't even remember the S woman's full name because she's so boring. Or was it Careane? It was one of the others that no one cares about.

Yes, I thought of Adeleas as being BA and that's why Vandene poisoned her, but gently so that she would not suffer too much. Now that I looked it up again it is weird because I remember reading about Vandene and that C black ajah character and being all, "You get her, Vandene." Then I totally forgot. The theory was with me longer than the book and poor Vandene died during a boring Elayne part. Not as bad as a Perrin part.

Cadsuane - Tilda Swinton

Tilda Swinton is fantastic, but I just can't see her as Cadsuane. More like Mesaana.

 

This guy, whoever the hell he is, needs to play Mat. I have never seen the essence of Mat's character captured in one simple picture before.

I do like Mary McDonnell, but for some reason I think she should play a more "good" AS instead of Queen Red-Frost Bitch.

 

I would like to see Gina Gershon as Elaida.

 

 

Red suits her. Okay, maybe she's too young/sexy for Elaida, but dammit a girl can dream. You want to see someone being an awesome badass lush and being a hot lesbian mess? We should watch Bound sometime. But not Showgirls, ffs. Not unless I get really drunk.

Olivia, Ok, so I pretty much love all your choices for AS, and Mat gets to invade the thread because he always ends up where aes sedai are. Especially Olga Kurylenko for Nynaeve. When I was making this list I thought that all the young people should be played by young actors, but why not make the Aes Sedai an odd mix of young and old without rhyme or reason? That way they could play ageless while still having or not having wrinkles. The younger actresses would just need the ability to play maturity and the older ones should have some youthfulness about their personalities. So, for me, as long as they don't look too much like kids I will think about them for my cast list.

 

Why can't Elaida look young, is what I'm saying! And Cadsuane. Mary M just has to be one of the badass ones and not be dead, is all I care about with that casting choice.

 

Picture Tilda walking into the room with Cad's chimes all in her hair and taking over everything. Making people make her tea.

 

I would also like to see this movie you speak of.

Tilda Swinton would make an amazing Cadsuane, I can totally imagine coming charge of everything and everyone. And Dame Helen would make an interesting Verin...not who I originally pictured, but I actually like it. The only choice I'm not really behind is Mary as Elaida, although I have no doubt Mary could pull off the slightly crazy and always entertaining Elaida, I think she would be better suited to another role.

I'm so glad you like Tilda as Cadsuane! She and Zhang Ziyi are the two I have been thinking about for a while now. Tilda would rock all the houses. I know people say her looks aren't conventional (I think she's gorg), but she could fit Cadsuane appearance wise and her whole acting style is so varied and interesting.

 

And we go back to MM. I'm a fangirl of Mary because of bsg, and when Roslin went hardcore I loved it, so maybe I'm biased. Less crazy pants than Elaida but in a role that could still scare the pants off viewers occasionally?

I'm a huge Laura Roslin fan, thats why I'm sure that she could pull off Elaida. I guess she doesn't doesn't fit in with how I imagine Elaida. I actually think Mary would be a good choice to play Merean if New Spring was ever to be televised.
