meeting famous people

Recommended Posts

Who have you met or had a sighting of? What is your opinion of celebrity and did you ever have a different opinion than you do now? What about actors from cult shows? Do you think it's easier or harder for them to be an actor in tv or movies?

The first and nicest person I met was Nana Visitor from ST: DS9 when I was twelve or so. She was completely into talking about her character as a freedom fighter and complimented my looks when I knew I looked like a sweaty, sunburned dork in my cousin's bright yellow sweater which I had to change into due to a red slushie disaster in the car on the way. She was awesome, and had to sit in the hot sun outside way longer than any of the fans had to wait in line. I remember there was only one bottled water on the table, and it was already empty. Teh Suck! So, that's my first impression of people who perform for a living. They work really freaking hard and are under no obligation to have any extra niceness about them toward anyone, but do often go out of their way to be kind.

It makes me want to work hard at my job now and make sure I take care of all the dancers who come to our theatre. So, what are your thoughts?

I try to act normal around them and not think of them as special, but it's pretty surreal seeing them in real life. I'm sure if I get to see Alan Rickman this fall on broadway I'll wait at the stage door after the show just to look at him, and then I won't be able to say that he's not special with a straight face :D

My favorite celebrity meeting was at a Deadsy show. My friend and I were led backstage by the band's manager and he started introducing people and said "this is Molly" and the so-called Molly was in the corner of the room so I hadn't looked at her yet. I shook her hand and to my surprise it wasn't just some random Molly, it was Molly Shannon. I was so proud of myself for not freaking out. I remember explaining to her that Deadsy had bottles thrown at them the night before in Las Vegas. Jared Leto and Heather Graham were also there but I had no clue who they were until later.

I met Britney Spears a few years ago, before she was a mom, when here in Stockholm to make a record(...Baby One More Time). In Sweden students gets to try real jobs for two weeks, without pay, of course. It's supposed to be educational and my friend spent his two weeks in a music store near Max Martin's studio, and anyhow, he came down to get some strings and my friend totally screwed up and gave him the wrong ones so then he came down again, this time Britney was with him and it was all very glamorous even though she was pretty much incognito. The back street boys were more fun and toyed with the instruments on display when they were there but I missed that, I just saw them leave.

Then I happened to be in London for the Tomb Raider movie premier, and this was a kinda big thing because Core, the developers were UK based...and Lara Croft is British too, so yeah, it was a big thing and I managed to catch a glimpse of Angelina from across the street and she was beautiful and not as tough as she looks in movies. Surprisingly sweet even. I never actually saw Tomb Raider until Marie made me just recently :P I don't think anyone expected her to run off with Brad Pitt, they are so different but I suppose opposite attracts.

Brad had a little thing with a girl from a cloth store...I think it might have been H&M, I forget. It was years ago. Anyhow, she was a distant friend of my sister and I managed to tag along to meet him and shake his hand. He mistook me for a Swedish actor and wondered what movies I had been in :P He gave a nice but sorta confused impression like a puppy.

Most recently I saw Lady Gaga, she does a lot of work in Stockholm too, with RedOne and I've seen here live here several times...does that count? She waved at me from her car after her last performance.

I've also seen Rihanna (her nipp slipped! :D ), Hyde, Enya (got her autograph), and Mary McDonnell..or possibly Sylvester Stallone :P they are so hard to tell apart. And various Swedish celebs too.

I've met lots of cricketers, but the famous person I met most recently was David Tennant in 2008, after one of his Hamlet performances. He was nice and funny. :)

I am super jealous Nik got to go to a Gaga concert. My old landlord was a famous baseball player for the Yankees or something, but since I don't care about baseball it was not special or anything.

I am related to a bunch of writers and journalists, one of whom is an aunt who was the editor of the Times. Don't know if that counts?

Kevin Bacon always comes to the area a lot and I've seen him around and said hi. He's really normal too and very quirky. I've met a bunch of sci-fi actors but just at cons. Mary McDonnell was a sweetie who gets so happy when her fangirls show up and Erin Grey was so quiet and kind. Adam West was a riot, a really cool person to talk to at the autograph table. I loved loved loved Levar Burton from Reading Rainbow before ST, so I was a nervous fangirl wreck when going to his talk. Gates McFadden talked about working for Jim Henson, so I was so in awe of that. She was a sweetie too. I want to meet Edward James Olmos so bad!

I've met porn stars while going to sex positive blogging event things and they are by far the most awesome people, especially the gay guys. Seriously so laid back and funny.

M. Night does movies in the area, so I always used to see him driving around. Mark Walburg (Wahlburg, sp?) is majorly hot in person and nice as shit. I now have a lesbian crush on him. (Also Brad Pitt, jealous about that too!)

Maybe there are more but I forget. It is mostly just from autograph lines at cons. I don't know if it's really meeting them, you know?

Oh, and local actors and theatre people. They are the same as famous people only without the famous parts. Also Liza Minnelli. Oh my god, the gay in me died.

How could I forget Obama! I saw him at a rally and he waved to a group of us from one of the cars in his caravan of buses and official looking government cars afterward. We were all practically shaking and crying! I was totally star struck.

Wow, you all have met some really cool and interesting people! :) I've never met any actors/musicians/politicians.

The only famous person I've met was RJ. He was at ComicCon in San Diego in '05. It was right before the NS comics started coming out, I remember because I bought a NS poster and he signed it for me (it's framed on my wall). He also signed two of my hardbacks (two was the limit the ppl set, so that fans didn't bring like 80 books for him to sign per person lol), which I will never ever part with. My sis also took a photo of me getting my books signed my him, also on my wall. (Light, I'm such a fangirl) :elayne:

He gave a little talk beforehand and had a Q & A session. I really liked listening to him, I found him earthy and witty. He was willing to hop from question to question about everything from how he designed the WoT map to what the first scene he wrote was to his personal life to whether he intended some of his characters to be as hilarious or as irritating as some readers found them.

He said a few quick words to people when they came up for signings also, and I remember asking him about my theory (and that of many other fans) that Graendal killed Asmodean. He smiled and gave me a vague non-answer, as expected, but for some reason that only made me believe it more. You could tell he was kinda amused and exasperated that the fandom chose this rather trivial detail to fixate on, but he was fun about it. I was really happy I got to meet him.
