Do you think that Moiraine did something wrong while alive?

Hmm i've been wondering do poeple think like me about this.

Ok, let's explain. When you start the first book (i mean The Eye of the World) you have this feeling of how poeople dislike Aes Sedai because of their.. uhm.. habit of using people and stuff. And because of that actually the main characters didn't like Moiraine almost until the end. Everybody was afraid of her that everybody would be used. Nynaeve definetly hated her. Only in the end Rand finally believed in her. And she was really the one of the few that he could trust.

However i don't think that Moiraine actaully did something wrong (except for falling into the Ter Angreal, f*ck Rand she died because he was weak.. :stab: ).

 

Yes she shouldn't have pushed him so hard (or maybe she should have?) and Rand really did good by going to the Aiel Waste (not listening to her advices) but overall she only tried to help...

And this obsession of the main characters about being used... well if saving the whole world means being used i will have nothing against being used...

 

And she actually saved everybody from certain dead by going into their lives instead of destroying them. Except meaybe when she entered Lan's life because he lost the only friend that he had left, the last malkier exept himself of course and he had nothing left. Nothing exept becoming her Warder.

 

Well, what do you think about this? I know that this is a Moiraine forum and i think that i know what most of you would say but... :)

 

P.S. oh, i have to tell you that i disliked the character of Nynaeve only because she hated Moiraine... :P

I don't think it's Moiraine's fault; I think it was the stereotype put on all Aes Sedai, so the other characters went looking for those things in her. She knew what she had to do, and she did it. She paid the ultimate price with her sacrifice to help them. Her ways may not have been liked by all, but it was what had to be done. If they could have seen that, I think they wouldn't have disliked her and therefore trusted her more.

Moiraine could have tried the honey approach, but well... Rand wouldn't listen to the threats hardly. I doubt being nice would change his outlook.

 

Um... Letme try something here...

 

Needless were none of the deeds of Ganda... Moiraine in life. Or that last section of hers anyway, her younger years are doubtful.

Do I think Moiraine has made mistakes in her life? Yes, of course, she's only human. But I don't think the Aes Sedai stereotype really applies to her. She seems to have this moral code, although where she got it is a mystery. She is a Damodred afterall.

 

I'm not sure she was too hard on Rand. Now that she's dead, he seems to see how useful she was to him. She tried her hardest, and that's all anyone can ask.

 

That, and that she comes back. :wink:

Hmm ;) Well i didn't try to say that she was perfect (or did I? :o). Of course she made mistakes. However she was blamed by everybody around her just for being an Aes Sedai. And as she has written on the letter to Rand she had tried many times to make him do what she wanted him to do. However she did that for the good of the world, at least from my point of view.

True. And I also wonder... unless I've missed something in the books that clears this up... how much do they know back at Emond's Field? For example, do they know Rand is the Dragon Reborn or about Egwene and Nynaeve?

No, they don't. There was no one to tell them. Perrin didn't do it. If the bowmen return they would tell them but...

And what about Nyneave? That she is an Aes Sedai?

Yes, they know taht. And all else that Alanna and Verin have told them while they where 'gathering' girls who could channel
