General discussion about The Wheel of Time

Recommended Posts

Yup. And i really mean the Wheel of Time. The Wheel itself.

There are a few things that bug me about the Wheel. I didn't read "the World of RJ" (where my question is probably answered) because it's too long...

So, I was thinking about the Wheel and how everything happens again and again. Because the battle of light/darkness is fought for eternity I've left with the impression from Dragonmount chapter that the Dragon had won many times and had lost many times. Still this buggs me. As i've read the explanations of Herrid Fel (sp?) about a month ago (as i read the WoT again) i've understood that in the Legendary Age poeople didn't know of the existing of the Dark One. Then they open the gap in his prison (in order to get to the True Power) and Lews Therin and the heroes seal him again (then the DO taints Saidin). So Herrid Fel (i have to see how is his name spelled ) says that in certain point of time the people should forget about the Dark One and then again this to happen. Does that mean that there are times when he breaks free? Or he never does?

Uhm and one more thing. I was wondering why RJ chose exactly this Age to tell us about? I'm sure that there is a reason because if everything repeats than nothing new can happen. With slight changes - yes but still. Maybe because in this Age the DO finally gets the idea of breaking the Wheel of Time and re-doing the world as he wants it to be. I am wondering does the Wheel has effect on the DO. Does he has a fibre in the Great Pattern or does he just stands there?

The whole idea is legends become myth, and eventually even those fade from memory. When you forget history you tend to repeat it. Then you have portal stones which show all the alternate realities/diminsions. RJ likes to make things complicated.

I'm sure there's an interview or something where RJ talks about the age he picked. But I imagine although the battle between light and dark is retold every Age, the characters we're reading about are unique to the Third.

Well, all i know well what you've written. Maybe i didn't asked my questions right.

So:

Is the Dark One a creature like everyone else, a creature that lies within the power of the wheel. Has he ever broken free?

If the Dragon is Lews Therin Telamon (as Rand hears his voice) then what about the previous Dragon? I mean, before Lews Therin someone else should have closed the gap in the prison of the Dark One, and his thoughts should be in Lews Therin's head and also in Rand's and so on and so on. I know that the people are unique for every age and that only the Dragon is reborn... i mean so that he understands that he is reborn.

He appear in The Path of Daggers, Chapter 21.

:| Goodness, you have that at your fingertips?!

I bought myself another copy of Eye of the World (because my sister's gone off with my copy) so I can start off on the series again before KoD arrives.

I don't know!

As i've probably said i have them on e-format and the quote is directly from there. (you didn't think i have this in my mind, didn't you? LOL) And that's the only place i saw taling about "other dragons".

OK ok...so how about this...

The Creator trapped/sealed away the Dark One at the moment of creation, right? Ok. So he's there and the people of Randland in all the Ages are living and what not. Well, wasn't it only after they broke the seal in the Age of Legends that the Dark One put the Taint on the saidin? Then all the male channelers went mad. So how could Lews Therin have some other Dragon in his head? Has saidin therefore been Tainted before and then purified, only to continue repeating this vicious circle, like everything else?

Gah....I hope that made sense...:ahug:
