An Introduction

Recommended Posts

Hello, everyone.

I recently came to this site in search of a WoT community, but I was reluctant to lurk too much as I had not completed the series at the time. Now I have finally put down number eleven and naturally I am blown away.

I have many questions and hypotheses about things that have come to pass in Randland, so I look forward to sharing as well as absorbing your different perspectives on things. I had begun posting already; I guess I got a little excited and jumped right into conversation. Forgive my manners, please!

Also, like many of you, I have become artistically inspired by RJ and the WoT. I have picked up sketching as a new hobby and am currently working on perfecting the human form. I have some rad visions and far-out aspirations in my art pursuits, and I am anxious to share them with y'all.

Again, hello, and thanks to the staff and mods for a great site! :P

dude,I still haven't finished the series and I joined long ago!! Welcome!

Aren't you tempted by spoilers??? I know I was, which was why I waited until everything was read. I knew I wouldn't be able to not peek!

Hi FortyFiveAuto. I'm curious: what's behind that odd name?

Well, if you must know, I am a competitive shooter :) . I compete in International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) and International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) events from time to time, and I have even done NRA-spec 1,000-yard high-powered rifle bullseye competitions. I dare say I am an excellent shot with handgun, rifle, and shotgun, and quick to boot.

I am not to be confused with a huntor, the other half of the gun-owning species. Not that I am against hunting animals for food, to spare one's crops (much like ridding your granaries of weevils), or to adjust an ecosystem (mountain lions come to mind), but hunting, by and large, is extremely BORING, and moreover it is often unnecessary and/or damaging to an ecosystem. Besides which, most hunters are total jerk rednecks, who'd just as soon blow their own heads off out of ignorance than manage to get a round safely downrange. Well OK, maybe it's not that bad, but I like to attend gun ranges that adhere to a strict policy of safety-first. I'm just saying you can't always get that in a deer blind in the middle of the woods.

ANYWAY, back to your original question, when I first got into competition, I used an old U.S. Gov't 1911 pistol, caliber .45 Automatic. It's still my favorite to shoot, and I highly recommend shooting in general as a hobby to anyone who has not tried it.

Please forgive the long story, but sometimes the topic makes people skittish or brings out the not-so-pretty (read political) sides of a few. Don't you judge me! >.< Besides, I am getting rather comfortable here. :D

Ooh, a shooter. I've done some shooting in my... er... youth! With a .22 rifle. Well, actually, not that I had much choice, I was in the National Cadet Corps as a teenager and they make you learn!

We shot at targets, before you ask. And *modest cough* I was pretty good. I have a trophy to prove it.

Well my mom and sister read them so they'd tell me things as they went along, cuz I figured the books were too long for me to ever read....but then I did acutally start to read them. But knowing what I did helped a lot. Wasn't totally lost when reading and stuff.

Cool about the guns. heh.

That is awesome, I am stoked to hear that! Congratulations on your victory of yore.

I started smallbore with a .22, though I wasn't that good in my youth, hehe.
