Goodness... I have trouble finishing one DBC! What's the in-season speciality at Corner House right now? It's strawberries and cream in the winter, but I'm hoping for apple pie with cream when I go in April :shock:

I don't know whatever the in-season speciality is,... I always have a DBC and a choc mousse :razz:

But Apple Pie and cream sounds good :boogie:

There is a trick to finishing a DBC, I can teach it to you in April :P

And exactly what does being Orthodox entail (in comparison to those not orthodox, I mean)? *doesn't know much about religions despite living in India!*

*starts of with a really scientific tone...*

Well, the christians are divided mostly into orthodox, catholic (unortodox).

The main are of course orthodox and catholic. There are a lot of small differences between them but there are also few general ones.

The main is that the catholics believe that there is a person who is the connection between God and the people, who should carry God's messages - that is the Pope. The orthodox believe that no person is able to carry out God's messages so we do not have a Pope.

Other differences that I recall - the churches are built different. We have an Altar (a huge golden gate which is always at the east end of the church and people belive that God's behind that altar and he listens to the prayers. Nobody is allowed to go in there.

There was also a difference with the Mother Therese but I cannot recall it right now. We have the three holy saints - Jesus, God and The Holy Spirit and i think that the unortodox had something different, but I'm definetly not sure about it, so the catholics have the word here.

There are many other differences, many in the holidays. We have namedays which are the second important holiday after your birthday. Usually a saint has done something on that day (For example St. George - which in my language is Saint Giorgi and all the people named Giorgi have a name day). My nameday is on the 2nd of May (Boris' day). On that day Boris the First converted our faith from different Gods to christianity... and all that kind of stuff.

Also there is a difference in the dates that we celebrate big holidays like Eastern. Ours is two weeks after the catholic one. This has something to do with some old and new calendars but i cannot recall it now.

@Sivart - why???

The date thing... I don't know either... The Orthodox and Catholic churches didn't split until 1000 A.D. or so... and wasn't the Gerogian Calander developed around 600 A.D.?

The Three Holy Saints is the same.

A lot of the holidays... I think I have less, or maybe we just downplay them more. I'll ask about the calander, I really don't know.

As I re-read my post as well as many grammar and spelling mistakes I found out that it turned out as if I aksed Sivart why the dates are different. I actually asked you 'why did you always wanted to be able to talk to someone Orthodox!' ? :(

Oh! Well... I'm a Catholic in the Southern United States. I'm actually the minority around here, and I've never met an Orothodox, but I'm very interested in all the branches of Christianity! And from my Priest and Relgious Ed. teachers and dad I always hear that we are actually very similar with some very important but small differences.
