*nods* Yes, there's Moira.. but also Moi is french and is said the way her name is said too... and it's a word a lot of people know. I think it might have to do with the way people mispronounce her name. Maybe they say it like, "Mo-rain" or "More-Ahn". :?

I say "More-ahn" But that's because I thought her name was Maureen for two whole books. Now I rotate between "More-ahn" and "mwah-rain". Don't get me started on Siuan. :?

I remember once on wotmania someone spelled Moiraine with a q. And he did it more than once so it wasn't just a typo.

Yes, it is like the french "Moi". That's very pretty to me. More sounds harder and uglier to me. :(

NIGH-neev is the way it's supposed to be too, according to encyclopaedia-wot! I know we've talked about this before... but I can never remember these things. :?

I like saying Anvaere. Cairhienin names are fun...sometimes. Although Moiraine keeps giving me trouble...

About Siuan: yes it is "swan" but that only makes sense (based on spelling) if you say the name with Spanish phonetics. I am not a huge fan of Spanish so the name gave me issues (Siuan does not sound like swan if you try and say it with English phonetics).

Yes, that's true. But when you first read book two you don't have that knowledge at your disposal, thus, I didn't know how to say Siuan and I didn't see how it would pronounce swan. I did finally break it down into Si (spanish for yes) and uan (like Juan) and said it really fast. But after years of calling her Shawn (I knew it was wrong and didn't care) the two sort of blended into "See-awn" or "Sha-wan"
