All about India

Recommended Posts

(for some reason I wasn't getting the notification that there were new posts in this topic and here you are having a huge discussion on India without me!!)

To answer: Yes, I am Indian. Born and brought up. No, not everyone in India is Hindu, though most are (if I am not mistaken, it has the world's largest Muslim population; also, there are a significant number of Christians, Parsis [Zoroastrians], Jews, Buddhists, sadists, perverts, saints, philanthropists... well, y'know, it takes all sorts!)

For some reason, I don't like most Indian writers (with the exception of Satyajit Ray, and him I've only read in translation, so I dunno if that counts!) - in fact, I think the Brits are the best in that department.

Er, any other questions?! Re the publishing scenario, it looks a bit bleak. My book's mainly for an adolescent audience and no one wants to take that segment seriously. Poor things!

Just nevermind, Nimue.....

Ooooh.....I feel like I'm at school!! ~sits down in front of Jan~ ok ok, I have another question! How do you have such good English? oh wow, was that not the worst grammatical sentence ever... :? well, maybe it wasn't that bad...anyway. Yeah. India does seem to be rather poverish, not saying no one of great intelligance or whatnot can come from there, but yeah....am I making sense or am I confusing myself now?

Oh, I think we should all get to see a piccy of Jan!!!

~inser another blush here!~ English has been the primary language of communication, education and work for me. I even *think* in English, if you know what I mean!!

Yeah, it's a poor country, even though it's supposed to be an IT powerhouse. SOmetimes we give ourselves airs rolleyes.gif but basically 50-odd years of existence as a free country means that there is still a long, loooong way to go! And the tsunami hasn't helped!

Depends on your socioeconomic status, place of upbringing, standard of education. Even though I complain all the time, I've had a pretty good life. Yes, if I had been male, things would have been much easier, but that's kinda true for almost any culture, isn't it?

Oh, I *love* that movie! Punjabi refers to the people/language/culture of Punjab, one of the states in India. Generally, Punjabis are associated with being a bit loud and crass. (And I will edit this post tomorrow and remove the last sentence, so you'd better read it quickly!)

'hem, it's not often I get to be the centre of attraction... so here goes:

I know Hindi and Bengali, and I used to know Urdu (it's so cool to write from right to left!).

The pic  ... er, how do you post one?

Oh, by the way, I got my second rejection from a publisher - they didn't even ask to see my complete MS! grrr...

so then it will look like such (and yes, I really did put a link in to a pic of me. Only fair....heh. Of course, you will need to have it saved somewhere...http://www.photobucket.com is great. That's where all mine are.

OH! and I split the thread....so this topic is about India and you, and so your orginal topic you started is about your publishing status!

There are some common misconceptions about indians all over the world. Like the one whitty was talking about, but sadly, people are closer to truth than they realise.

That's so contradictory and yet so true!! :o

BTW Jan, who is the other indian on this forum?? do you know this person??

Not personally, but we've IM-ed a bit.
