So i went sifting to find a thread for this and couldn't! But I found so many other threads that were highly amusing so that made the search worthwhile. Anyways, I really like this book, but I can't pinpoint why exactly. I like the steady momentum and the humor, I suppose. The Nynaeve/Mat dynamic is always good for a laugh. I like Egwene a lot in this book too, although I know there aren't very many Egwene fans on here. To be honest I like this book more than Lord of Chaos (weird, i know!).

Well now I don't have to start a book seven thread!

 

It would seem this is the book I start to hate Min. And I'm only on page 100.

 

Although I did finally, after two previous rereads, notice the Reds who were probably guilty of doing Owyn in.

Yes indeed. It was really irritating to watch her (and in LoC) get less "tomboyish" once she's with Rand - curling her hair, wearing makeup, and wearing more feminine and fancier clothes. It felt like RJ was saying that once a woman falls in love she has to give up her signature style just to be aesthetically pleasing to her man (who doesn't change for her), and that women who wear practical clothing and don't fuss over their hair/face are less "mature" than women who've fallen for some dude they barely know and are now hopelessly devoted and somehow content with only a third of his heart.

It'd be hilarious if, when Moiraine is rescued by Thom, she's had her Three Oaths removed like Siuan so she can lie her ass off. "Oh yeah, dearest Thom, I remember the names of the Reds I promised you all those books ago. It was, uh, Elaida. Yeah! And that bitch Liandrin. And Cadsuane; she's kinda Red. Oh and that one Red who gave me kitchen duty that one time for not paying attention in her novice class. ...A skilled player of the Game of Houses might find a use for their names."

I have just read Cadsuane's introduction into the main series and holy fishpaste it was awesome! Had me smiling through the rest of my work shift.

Really? I found her annoying from the start. I pretty much face-palmed at her introduction scene, basically an "Oh great, ANOTHER extremely bossy and opinionated character who treats everyone else like dirt, because WoT doesn't have enough of those already."

I always thought Cadsuane's introduction was one of the best in the series, I think it was the fact that she just barged in and took control

i am so enjoying cadsuane and caraline damodred. caddy always lays the smack (wants to spank everyone, i tell ya!) and caraline is fun bc she makes me think of moiraine had she not been an Aes Sedai. me likes

Yeah, just when Rand had really lost it with all Aes Sedai (not surprising considering the whole box torture kidnapping)

 

But Cadsuane brings a whole new element that affirms why (TRULY) the Aes Sedai have run the world so long. She helps keep them respectful. Although I sometimes thinks she kicks Rand when he's down a bit too often. But her fearlessness is freakin awesome.

 

I won't spoil anything but wait until the climax of Winters Heart! As cool as anything since the first four books (and she has a lot to do with that)!

I love Cadsuane. She made the No-Moiraine bearable in this book.

So far the only person I really am starting to hate is Min. Avi is annoying a little, like all Aiel are to me, and for some reason I can still tolerate Elayne. This is very surprising to me.

 

I have a weak spot of for Nynaeve I love how she thinks the way to solve Elayne/Avi's violent tendencies is to slap them silly.

I liked that part too! And I think it's in this same book where she says something along the lines of "Only a fool thinks she can get anything done by browbeating people" or something, and Elayne stares and Avi LOL's. Poor Nyn is so oblivious

I liked everyone in this book. I always liked the Aiel and Avi amuses me with how she practically thinks shes a Warder and can take out anyone. Nynaeve was her usual self but not snapping at Elayne which was good. I never disliked Elayne but I like how she took charge of the Aes Sedai and put her foot down about being raised when they were in Ebou Dar. I loved Mat. His internal thoughts about everyone and everything was hilarious. Mat's thoughts about Nynaeve were funny as usual and then after Lan showed up they were hilarious. His thoughts about Tylin were equally hilarious. I thought Mat really made the book. Caddy is fabulous. I also enjoyed Caraline Damodred a lot bc it was like a little balm on the Mo-missing wound. By the way her side story is pretty hot with two men chasing her, one who's a real prick, and her playing hard to get with the one she likes. (would make for some good fanfic!) I also have to say I like Min more in this book then in LoC. I found her more petty and childish in LoC. Now I think she's really just trying to balance her personality with being in love. I didn't view her as having totally changed into a milksop. She knows she acts milksoppy sometimes but she's still trying to be true to herself too. I also really liked Egwene laying the smack as Amyrlin. And Siuan sort of finding some guts again.

 

I'm almost done with the book now and i have to admit its been one of my favs.
