UGH I hate Hollywood!

Recommended Posts

Unlike Evil Betrayer of Hope Jan, I am far too lazy to make a blog post. So I rant on MW instead (although now that I think on it, is it really different than loading wordpress? No, but whatever!)

Here is a nice little article.

Basically, if you haven't heard, there are all these actors and directors who all have their little panties in a twist because OH MY GOD! The fugitive Roman Polanski got arrested for raping a child and fleeing justice.

He pleaded guilty to this charge so how in the world anyone can try and excuse raping a child is beyond me. Saying he has had a hard life because he couldn't accept his Oscar in person or cast movies in California is so...ugh. I wish my life was as hard with all those European mansions! Mon Dieu!

Jesus, I'm glad they finally arrested this... person. It goes to show how much freedom money can buy for child rapists who flee justice.

Apparently Debra Winger and other festival judges were inflamed. Because arresting a fugitive child rapist upset the solemnity of a movie festival.

She said this:

Winger... on Monday demanded Polanski's release and criticized Swiss authorities for their "philistine collusion" in arresting Polanski as he entered the country.

"This fledgling festival has been unfairly exploited, and whenever this happens the whole art world suffers," Winger said in a statement on Monday, standing together with the other four international jury members who wore red badges reading "Free Polanski" as they announced plans to continue the fest.

People that I recognized on the petition to support Polanski: Woody Allen (of course!), Wes Anderson, Darren Aronofsky, Fanny Ardent, Diane von Furstenberg, Tilda Swinton, Monica Bellucci, David Lynch, Jonathan Demme, John Landis, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, Pedro Almodovar and Martin Scorsese.

Nice, I will play the game of not giving rapists or rape apologists my monies.

LJ has the full list. Part of the petition they signed:

Roman Polanski is a French citizen, a renown and international artist now facing extradition. This extradition, if it takes place, will be heavy in consequences and will take away his freedom.

WTF? That is the point of being brought to justice for being a rapist.

Was reading the comments on age of consent of that Joan Shore woman who (also) brings up the point of age. What the hell? She could have been 31 instead of 13 and the meaning of "no" would still have remained the same!

According to that petition: "Filmmakers, actors, producers and technicians - everyone involved in international filmmaking - want him to know that he has their support and friendship." Support for raping a child? It's sad to see some of the names on that list.

The testimony the girl gave (and by pleading guilty Roman admitted to) indicated that she said "no" often which makes the whole "well, you know, maybe he didn't know her age" "maybe 13 was the age of consent!" (which it wasn't; I think it was 16 at the time) so stupid. Rape is rape.

I am sooooooooooo disappointed that Whoopi Goldberg is one of the rape defenders.
