[Split] Cold Moiraine

Recommended Posts

Male reader: Yes

Likes Rand: No

Likes Moiraine: Yes

In fact, I don't like most of the male characters or the majority of the females either. I like a very select few. I don't dislike the Aes Sedai, in fact they are some of my favorite characters. Most all of the Bordermen (not all of them, but most) that we have seen I like.

Moraine seems cold, impersonal, etc. But if you've ever read the Shannara books, you'll see that Allanon is colder than she is, and he plays the same role. I think the fantasy nitch she plays is prefered with "colder" seeming characters.

Oh, and Rand isn't the strongest channeler, Ishamael/Mordrin is equal to him.

I agree with Travis, I like very few of the WOT characters.

About Moiraine and her death... much as I was devastated with her "death" when it happened, I think Jordan has stretched it out a bit too long. If he brings her back in book 12, it'll be a cheapish stunt, I feel. I mean, I'd like her back, but I wanted her back much before.

But then, I shouldn't complain... I was having a hard time killing a well-liked character off in my next book! :P

Well I like Rand. I think he has become very misunderstood, but otherwise he just reminds me of a country dude, very silent and internal, and somewhat boastful at times, but that's all good.

Ishamael/Moridin was still only slightly less capable than Lews Therin in the AoL. If Rand truly is Lews Therin reborn, then this trend should hold.

I tend to like the evil and/or mysterious persons in the book.

Could'nt have put it better rick, those are the reasons why I still like rand. Sometimes his chivalry is a bit too much though ..... :P

I'm sure it's a matter of psychology for most. U open "the eye of the world" and first see Rand, later u read n' learn about Aes Sedai from his point of view. so Moirane becomes cold and so on. but if started from "New Spring" (like I did) surely one would see an absolutely different Moiraine, with all of the human qualities she has and emotions she feels. what i mean is that reading "new spring" after the whole WoT books read be4 makes one preconvenienced for Moraine as an Aes Sedai who's only trying to manipulate Rand.

for me Rand is a great guy with high moral and nobility, but he's more tied to traditional thinking than the whole white tower is. His wishing to act opposite whatever Moiraine wants him to do is so dull and childish. this way he forces Moiraine to act the way she does, obtaining all those compliments like "cold" and stuff.
