How many have ugly heros in them? I can honestly say I most likely wouldn't enjoy a story very much if it was filled with ugly characters. Heros/villians are not suppose to be your everyday Joe on the street, and evil, ugly characters seems cliché which leaves only one option, really.

In WoT defense, I have noticed less than beautiful female characters, even plain ones, but then when read from a PoV of someone who loves/cares for them they become beautiful. I think the number of actually beautiful woman in this story is around even with attractive men. Except in the main characters, of course.

Hi! A slight return as the end of a painful series of exams is finally over

In the strive to get out of the trivial "boy who becomes a legend and saves the beautiful and weak women in the story" many authors came to the idea of "the wise beautiful female" (which apparently cannot be extremely physically strong as would not fit into the 'beautiful' part but is really powerfull through some kind of skill). I've seen this more and more often into new books and yes this idea is really appealing at least to me :P As it was the idea of the guy with the sword as I was younger and the powerfull mage as I was a little bit older than "younger" :D.

I doubt that you would have ugly main female character. Or even if she is not a main char but someone that plays a role like Gandalf does. I cannot recall the book name but I remember one character which was an extremely deadly female carrying two curved swords in one fantasy and of course she was extremely beautiful. And I have seen this idea many times.

I think the chars have to be beautiful so that their image can be *born* if I can use this word. Imagine one like Gadalf or Moiraine that is the strong wise one that always knows what to do and how to do it. The idea is that you feel somewhat of respect when the characters enters the scene. For example comes into the room in a really tensed moment. So imagine this, and now try to imagine it with an ugly character... it just wouldn't do... rolleyes.gif

Edit: A whole reply of offtopic...

To answer the main question, as you would have guessed - Moiraine!!! Always Moiraine! And she is more beautiful than Lanfaer in my opinion! ;)
