[Split] Geeks fighting about geekiness

Recommended Posts

They are trying to fix it in the expansion. They are going to give horde a prettyboy race called bloodelves. So now we are going to get two million little brats playing bloodelves called legolahs or some other variation of that cursed name.

Call me generic or a traditionalist but I always play the classic Human in those type of games. Name, usually my name somehow altered. Sivart has been used several times. I also don't play MMORPGs, I play single player RPGs, specifically the Elder Scrolls.

I like to try out each race sooner or later, but I usually start with human or a mage of some kind, because that's just what I like playerkilling/leveling with.

I have a melee character that has dual weapons right now, and I'm finding it really fun getting the hang of using brute force!

It's fun getting the hang of all kinds of rp games. I've tried a little of all but nothing in great detail! There's not enough rp in mmorpg for me though. Real time ffrpg (I mean chat rather than message board stuff) was the most fun I had with this sort of thing! I loved making my own characters and just playing them when I was a teen. It wasn't about leveling, and fights were about manipulating the other(s) into a place where they had to take the hits. I played a tablecloth once just as an experiment to see if it could be done interestingly! It wasn't magical or talking/moving... just a tablecloth! It did have a main purpose in life, and this was to lay across a table.

I have tried more RP in WoW. There are special servers (RP servers they are called rolleyes.gif) for rp'ing. But I have never been able to get into it enough, and hence I have no imagination whatsoever and I just end up thinking its all just very stupid.

I'm not certain how the rp is on WoW. But, I think it's very stupid to draw distinction between role playing and playing on a mmorpg as being more silly than the other. It's a little like geeks laughing at other geeks for liking Star Trek, when they like Star Wars.

Agreed. Like people making fun of LoTR fanatics when they are WoT fanatics or Shannara fanatics and what not.

I only make fun of fanatics if they are really fanatical, like wear Star Trek or WoT costumes, have symbols from the books tattooed on them, and those that think anyone less devoted to their cause/writer/story than they are is an idiot and a faker. And while I know most MMORPGers aren't that crazy, some are! And they deserve to be made fun of!

Well, sorry, but when someone starts preaching to me about LotR and Tolkien I have to put them in check. If you like the story, great. If you think Tolkien is the best author, great. But trying to convince me to follow your ideology, not so great.

Some gamers are annoying too. "What do you mean you haven't played the original 1984 Japanese version?! You are not a true gamer!" I mean really. These people deserve to be put in place.

It starts little wars of yelling about things that are wholly matters of opinion. I don't see why anyone would dress up like the characters on a normal day, but then again I'd wear a bathrobe everywhere if I could get away with it. It usually accomplishes nothing but getting a few feathers ruffled and prevents people from having any semblence of civility.

But you weren't making fun of mmorpgers. In fact, your statements now contradict your attitude earlier.

Where did the argument about this come from in the first place? Do I have to split this off from random and lock it? I won't have other people on here feeling badly.

Alright, I'm editing this because after a short discussion it seems to be that people are confused.

I'm saying that it's silly to make fun of someone else just because they are in another fandom or do something slightly different than you do... all of which could be considered geeky! I brought up the fact that some people just like to dress up like a wookie and go to conventions, or some like to get tattoos of things. Who are we to judge?

Another in this conversation *hums and is secretive?* said that they are annoyed with people who try to say that Lotr, for example, is the greatest and that everyone should love it.

So, the difference in that is that one fanboy/girl is loving something fannish, and one is loving something fannish and saying they're better than other people.

What are we talking about?!

It appears I missed a page of posts. Well. A geek making fun of a geek is silly, however geeks pushing their views on others is stupid, and they have no right to get offended if someone pushes back. They also have no right to get upset if someone has a different opinion or even more ridiculous, if someone points out that Mr. Geek's opinions are just that: opinions.

I don't know if you can tell, but I have had very very very bad run-ins with certain fandoms.
