Moiraine and the Towers of Midnight

Recommended Posts

So I haven't managed to get far into reading the rest of the book, partly because I'm so excited about Moiraine parts and want to reread like NOW and partly because I'm a little tipsy from celebrating her return.

Anyway.

I can't believe she was the one to propose!

Mat actually stood up and was like, "WHAT DID YOU SAY" tru fax

I agreed with Mat.

Thom burnt the crap out of his hands. They were covered in blisters pulling her out from where she was. And he couldn't get the fire started but then Moiraine did it for him, and he chuckled and said he forgot she could do that. He was seriously in "I love this fine woman" mode.

Thom pulling Moiraine's kesiera out of a fire: that dream was more literal than I think anyone realized. Awwww.

Yes, that surprised me. :D There's so much symbolism and allegory in WoT dreams/prophecies/Foretellings that it's surprising (for both readers and characters) to hear something literal. Reminds me of that quote from the mock-summaries:

Gitara: He is born again! I feel him! The Dragon takes his first breath on the slope of Dragonmount! [Dies.]

Moiraine: Too bad she didn't specify when and where the Dragon was reborn.

Siuan: Yes, it's quite a puzzle.

Moiraine: Yes, if only there were some specificity to her comments.

Tamra: To be safe, fill this journal with the name of every boy born in the last ten years from here to the ocean.

Haha. I've read that at least 10 times and it still makes me laugh out loud.

The crazy/embarassing thing is, I'd rather chat about Moiraine right now than finish the book.

Moiraine is most important. I am still buzzed. :dizzy:

I didn't like how Thom kind of left her hanging (for all of thirty seconds but still) when she offered her hand in marriage. I was like: "Thom! You know you want her, fool!"

I didn't like when she offered to throw away her angreal just so he wouldn't be uncomfortable around a more powerful channeler woman. I know he turned that offer down immediately, but it still irked me that she would offer. Why should any person, male or female, have to make themselves less just to make their loved one feel less insecure?

She is really a romantic. Moiraine offering to give up the angreal spurred him into action, though. He was just kind of standing there right before that.

I like that we got at least a mention of Moiraine being important in the Last Battle from Mat. And Moiraine wanted to get to Rand right away. I was worried she wouldn't be herself, but she was still Moiraineish.

I'm not used to her smiling so much! But who wouldn't after getting out of the Tower?

well, I thought it was mostly perfect. I always expected her to be more "smiley." (Or more human, rather). Mat shares something very personal with her now, so it makes sense she's more human with him now. She doesn't need to manipulate him or be cold/unwavering. What makes Moiraine so awesome is that she so rarely shows any type of emotion and that makes the few times she does really really meaningful. She's probably still going to be "regular" Moiraine toward everyone except the main Two Rivers characters now.

I didn't take the angreal thing seriously. She was just saying she would do anything for him, and knew he wasn't going to accept the offer anyway.

Sometimes dramatic and needy people say certain things as a kind of bait. Kinda like "It's ok if you have the last piece of cake." or "Do you think he's manly?" or, as in Moiraine's case...well, actually, I didn't read it. But I gather it went something like, "I can throw it away if you wanna, I don't mind at all."

It's fortunate Thom is wise and knew to reassure her and then lose it in the laundry or something.
