  1. I still think it was deeper than just no-other-option-have-to-get-the-sexual-tension-out-somehow.

They obviously care about each other, and Moiraine even says directly that "she had never loved anyone as much as Siuan". They were so close in terms of training and strength in the Power, also, which forges another tie between them besides just the normal friendship or pillow-friendship that other novices and Accepted go through. :) I think they were truly in love with each other, but when they became Aes Sedai they gave more ot their causes than to themselves, which split them apart physically, which led to a dimming of the love.

I do agree that both are attracted to men and not women, but I don't think they totally forgot about each other or regretted their relationship.

If they were really and truly not attracted to women they wouldn't have thought of being together in the first place and enjoyed it as much as they did. They had to have attraction for the same sex.

  2. I am agreeing more with Niklas today. :) It is a tricky thing the Black Ajah have done, and they have caused a lot of harm because even many Sisters went around believing them because they didn't think any of them could lie.

Yeayea... trust needs to be earned. But, maybe removing the Oaths just yet would not be the best way. It depends on what happens with the great Black Ajah hunt and the Last Battle, maybe.

  3. Rand has never much liked being told a different option than the one he has planned. Even if he knows the other option is better. In book three he argued with Moiraine more for the sake of it, than because he actually disagreed. It wasn't until she was dead he went "o rly, maybe she was right"

Cad has seen the results of Moiraine's efforts and is trying a different approach. And honestly, she's 295 years old. Do you really think she would have that much patience for a 22 year old kid? Yes, he's the DR, but that doesn't mean his automatically smart and capable. It means he's someone else reborn.

    True. :)

Moiraine did the best she could, but she's practically Rand's age to Cadsuane as well. ;) Caddy just has a whole lot of experience, and I'm glad she showed up to give a mature perspective!

    @ajit: Thanks, hehe!

  4. You can't compare WoT to our world. If that was the case girls would be married off at 12, but clearly they have some boundaries.

My issue with Perrin is how upset he got when her parents suggested *gasp* this wasn't the right time for marriage. His possessiveness of her freaked me out.

Yes, it's not as bad as our world was. I was going to mention that, and the fact that I read Marie Antionette had to be married to her brother ceremonially before she could enter France so that she would be a dauphine instead of an archduchess of austria... but yes... *has started rambling about the newest thing she googled*

But, WoT is still very much like the 16th century without gun powder because that's what RJ based much stuff on. :) Getting married at 16 was normal.

I agree about his possessiveness. I think Perrin is much more likely than Mat to betray Rand, and all because of his *gasp* Faile! Since I found out she's actually very young she doesn't bother me as much as she did. ;) I can excuse her a little.

  5. *giggles* I am attracted to pretty men and I am a mostly lesbian.

We've only seen Momo have three relationships of that nature. The first was Cormanes, and we know nothing about him except that Momo kissed him a bit and stopped thinking about him when she went into the Tower. The second was Siuan, and that was a full on relationship with tickle fights and noti things and mice in the bed. :o The third is with Thom. That's unfufilled and undeveloped that we know of, unless they were really really tricky!

Then we have Momo's relationships with others. She shows puppy love toward Tamra, has been demonstratively affectionate (for her) with Egwene, Agelmar's sister, Anaiya , and in her own particular way with Nynaeve. I feel like I left some out. :) She shares a partnerly relationship with Lan, and has been a bit motherly (for her) to Rand, and teasing to Perrin. With Mat she's shown some frustration, and with Loial she's had to be patient, because beneath that exterior we knows she's kinda impatient. ;)

Just from going with that small amount of evidence it's really hard to place her sexual identity! I don't think we really could! But, she just seems to me to be bi, rather than straight. It is a feeling.

  6. No, if he continues the way he is going he will only destroy the world, because he has forgotten himself. This is a major theme in the books. It's hard to understand because actually the sort of personality type Rand has is being rewarded in popular culture, but it is a woefully damaged one.

Rand will not respond to coddling. He would not have listened to Cadsuane if she tried to be his best friend, or even worse - his underling. The people in power are the ones that especially need to understand humility, and so being the Dragon Reborn means that he needs to learn what she is teaching him even more than anyone else.

He doesn't like the way she talks to him. It upsets his feelings. Good. His feelings need to be addressed and identified. It is difficult, but so is life.

  7. She successfully split apart the White Tower right before TG. If that's your idea of not much I'd hate to see what you expect something really big to be.

Also, she hasn't been killed yet, or to our knowledge messed up her plan in any way. She's been an excellent Forsaken sowing the seeds of disruption and chaos... much like Graendal has been.

  8. She's not acting that way because she's really feeling those things.

There was a boy in first grade that got away with everything at home. He was disturbed, and getting much more violent. He swung a puppy by it's tale and threw it, nearly killing it. He would take things from the teacher's desk. He brought his knife to school and stuck it through a little girl's sweater.

If he had been expelled right then there would have been no help for him. The teacher knew she had to do something herself, and so brought me to stand next to her so that we would both seem more imposing. This was in the hallway and without the other children around. She told him everything that he did wrong, and got very very close to his face and told him to look at her. She told him to look at her face and see what was happening. She was very red and angry, and not forgiving or halfway smiling in the way that adults always were before. She scared him. But when he went back in the classroom the anger was completely gone. We spoke about what to do next. It was strategy to save this boy. She really worked with him after that, and he trusted her and treated her a little like a mother. His mother gave him no boundries at all. This teacher showed him that certain things he did were completely unacceptable, and there would be consequences more than just seeing someone angry.... which must have shocked him enough!

Anyway, some people would definitely have issues with her approach. But, I know how that boy was, and I know how he is now. She saved him.

I think this is what Caddy is trying to do.

  9. I can see Mesaana (sorry, I cannot spell her name) do it rather than Moggy. Mesaana needs to do something big before the end of series and this could be her moment.

I love that idea. Actually, either Mesaana or Moggy would be brilliant.

  10. *votes for Berelain being Momo's new potentional first-sister*

But I don't think Mo would really do that anyway, because it's an Aiel thing. She's not much like those Cairhienin that wanted to be so much like the Aiel, but missed all the important things about the culture. (Even though, I thought they were endearing in their own ways, poor short ones!)

  11. What is sad.. was Moiraine's reaction to hearing about Siuan when she was talking with Egwene about it. Yes, she was extremely icy, but of course Momo shows that when something's going on inside. :runcry: It really effected her, and Siuan hasn't said much about Momo in return! *sighs*

No, I agree with Laura1 and everybody.
