  1. I agree with you completely, Marie. It seems like at least a possibility that channeling will go away, but that would be a very lame and disappointing climax. And as you said in 2), I just plain like channelers; magic and magic-users are often one of the coolest and most fascinating parts of any fantasy series.

@ Ekho: That's a hilarious observation. :plot: I lol'd at the mental image of Egwene sitting impotently in her awesome new united Tower being all like, "Well I guess we can still try to be ordinary peacemakers hurr durr..."

  2. I'm not sure if Mat losing an eye (or whatever other interpretation of "half the light of the world" ends up coming true) is necessarily related to his rescue of Moiraine. Certainly Moiraine will be important to the Last Battle (go Momo!), but I thought those viewings/prophecies about Mat had something to do with his own part in the Last Battle, like when he blows the Horn or uses his cannons or something.

  3. is thom going to jump out and be all 'give me back mah woman!'?

   !

TBH I'm kinda clueless about it too. I figured that whatever I hypothesized, RJ's plans would end up being something completely unexpected and different, or else I would come near the mark in my guess but miss it completely. WoT plots are tricky like that. (Or maybe I'm just slow on picking up on them.)

For some reason I always pictured it as more of a fight rescue rather than a bargaining process. The theme of the Finns/Snakes and Foxes board game/etc is that you can't win unless you break the rules, so I assumed Mat and crew would just storm the place with their un-allowed weapons, like iron knives and harps and matches/explosives and do their best to kick the Aelfinns' and Elfinns' asses. But now that you mention it, it would be more crafty to somehow bargain with the Finns but find some tiny loophole in the agreement or cheat the rules somehow to get Moiraine back, since that fits the theme of bargains/"everything has a price" mentality of the Finns. :plot:

*shrugs* In the end, beats me. I just want Moiraine back.

  4. I was kinda "huh?" when I first heard they were going to release a trailer too, Tosh. I mean, what's the point? It can't be advertising - we're freaking 13 books into this series and it has millions of readers around the world, so I'm pretty sure they're not trying to broaden the fanbase with this trailer.

...I think the only thing worse than reading that letter is hearing it aloud.

    :lmao::P

Still, despite it's silliness, I kinda liked it. Aldieb was pretty (wow, now there's a reunion I want to see before the series ends!) and so was the outfit. Like others, I'm kinda ambivalent about Momo's appearance and voice, but I still think they did a good job, considering that with any literary character everyone will have different imaginings of how she appears in their head. And at least they got the dark eyes right! For a second there when we had that close-up of her face I was worried her eyes would open and be blue.

  5. Rome was a terrific show! Still one of my favorites. I actually liked Servilia and Octavia's relationship. Seeing two beautiful, elegant women have sensual sex made a nice change from all the brutal, ugly screwing we see all the others characters do over the course of the show. And I liked that Servilia still retained some feeling for Octavia afterwards, like insisting that assassin boy not harm her.

Anyways, loved this fic, loved how you kept everyone in character - especially Atia, with her nonchalance towards the slaves and her total cluelessness towards Servilia ("A large penis is always welcome!" - one of funniest lines on TV ever :smit:). I kind of wonder how Atia is able to come up with so many details about how Servilia and Octavia's encounters might have progressed... A vivid imagination or something else, I wonder? Great job, neither too flowery nor lacking in descriptions, good description-to-dialogue transitions, characters not too speechy. Nice work, Laura. :D

  6. I thought it would be nice to remember why some of us love her. :)

    Because Moiraine loved her.

JK :( Siuan actually irritated me when she was first introduced in TGH. One scene in WoT that sticks out for me is the "lesson" between her and Nynaeve on the boat to Tar Valon. Nynaeve is my second favorite character after Moiraine, so I was disappointed and frustrated at seeing her so humiliated and owned (even if Nyn was acting pretty childishly and did deserve it). Siuan was introduced as such a commanding, ball-busting hard-ass, and became even more so in TDR when she turns the girls into BA hunters and takes Mat down a peg.

I'm not sure when I started to like her, but I remember being angry during the scene in TSR where Elaida usurps her, same way I was upset at Siuan's treatment of Nynaeve - because somewhere along the line I had started to think of Siuan as a character I cared about. TFoH and onwards (i.e., post-Bryne meeting), I was a bit interested in her intrigue in the rebel camp and her mentoring of Egwene, but I slowly lost most of my liking for her. NS Siuan remains the best (and my favorite) incarnation of her character. :marie:

But throughout the series, Siuan is strong, determined, commanding, stubborn, capable, intelligent, and like most WoT protagonists, she never gives up. Even in her wuss-ified state, she's still got the heart of a lion. Maybe that's what caused her downfall as Amyrlin - her secretiveness and stubbornness - but she came out of that strong too.

Also, she has purdy blue eyes. And is occasionally hilarious.

  7. I agree with you, Erika, that it's unrealistic to think she'll be completely unaffected by whatever happened during her months-long stay in Finnland, but also like you said, there just isn't time enough for her to go through a full psychological recovery from some deep trauma. For example, it's been 6 books for Rand and yet he still has claustrophobia and nightmares about being stuck in the box and beaten... But we don't have another 6 books for Moiraine to deal with similar issues, not to mention she's not the main character so we probably won't have an abundance of PoVs from her (sadly :(). Also, I kind of doubt Sanderson's ability to write that kind of long-term psychological rehabilitation anyway even if he had the story time.

So, for plot reasons (and because I love her so), I'm hoping Moiraine will be portrayed as "damaged, but stronger for it" upon her return. Maybe she'll leap right into a romance with Thom (because, again, not much time to develop their relationship - though that never really stopped RJ, haha), but I'm hoping there will be at least a decent time for companionship/romancing before they get to the point of sharing a bed. I for one think Moiraine is likely to wait until after the Last Battle before seriously committing to Thom - after all, she's dedicated her whole life to ensuring the Last Battle will be won, and I'd be pretty offended if she suddenly put that goal second to knocking boots with Thom, even if captivity has made her re-evaluate her stance on romance.

  8. I did warn people the pic was gross! Don't be surprised. :(

@ Brynefan: They only have to get pulled out if you don't have space for them in your jaw. You must be one of the lucky ones who had enough space. :) When I was a teen I was told I'd have enough space but now they said because the rest of my teeth are so big it was better to pull all 4 wisdom teeth out before they start causing jaw problems (they were right at the edge where they were starting to cut against the flesh/gum whatever of my jaw, could lead to inflammation and serious infection, etc).

And welcome back, BTW. Sorry that Sanderson ruined your favorite pair for you  (I feel your pain; RJ ruined my favorite pair for me too! Well, he created it in the first place, but still!)

  9. And here's a fun new trailer on Youtube for a film I did a few years ago.

    http://www.youtube.com/user/CameronBeaumont82

This film was made for next to nothing with a completely improvised script and an all volunteer cast.

I'll be posting the entire film in weeks to come. Enjoy.

"I like my fast food greasy." - haha. That was an awesome trailer, Asmo. I'm not usually a fan of the vampire genre but a vampire civil war is pretty cool! You guys got really creative. :(

  10. Got my wisdom teeth out yesterday. Apparently it's something that's supposed to be done when you're a teenager, but better late than never I guess. Wasn't as painful as they made it out to be. :(

Click here if you want to gross yourself out with a picture I took of them. Can't tell from the pic but they are really damn big; the dentist jokingly said I have teeth like a horse.

  11. I had the most vivid and intense WoT dream the other night.

I was at a Black Ajah trial in the vein of the trials of the Deatheaters in Harry Potter. I wasn't actively taking part, but watching from a gallery with a whole bunch of Aes Sedai. Very strange.

Was this trial conducted in the nude? Can't have a formal ceremony in WoT without female nudity!

  12. I think it's Thom opening the Tower and Noal is holding the staff... I think that THING draped over Thom's shoulders is supposed to be his patched gleeman's cloak, though I can't remember if he still actually wears that thing in the books. No idea why Noal's holding a staff though, he uses knives doesn't he? Maybe they found Mo's staff and wanted to bring it to her. (What happened to that pimp staff, anyways? I can't remember where it goes after TEotW. Did it break in the battle against Aginor and Balthamael?)

I completely agree about the nonsense of the TSR cover. I was a little offended by that cover, TBH. I think it's supposed to be Moiraine in the blue dress, even though neither she nor any of the women cook for Rand (and why is Rand wearing some 80s sweatband anyways?), and it seems like a more low-cut dress than what she would wear.

Edit: I still think LoC is the worst cover. So trashy-looking. Also, I think I've mentioned this, but my older sister (who hasn't read the books) saw me reading LoC and said the guy on the front looks like John Travolta. I have never been able to look at it the same way again.
