Animal name? *is baffled*
And generally the nickname for Olivia is Liv, but I don't mind any name.
And as for Siuan/Moiraine.... I know it ended, but we will always wonder if they still loved/thought of each other. (Though it is obvious they didn't as much in the later years, but a girl can dream!)
-
There's a difference between just thinking someone is good-looking/entertaining a slight fantasy of them, and being in love with them.
Maybe the death of Moiraine just encouraged her to let her feelings for Bryne develop (subconsiously maybe).

I can't buy the comics!
I went to the Red Eagle site and for the past month it has said that the store is "not available at this time". Also tried Dabel Bro., but they aren't selling it that I could find.
Also tried Ebay and Amazon.com. I can't find them anywhere.
I was wondering where you all bought them?

Siuan thinks Moiraine is dead, silly.
And for that matter, Moiraine thinks Siuan is, too. Maybe that's why she was so.....generous...in that letter she wrote to Thom.
-
*inserts lewd comment as to what Moiraine is best at.* I'm sure Siuan could verify the claim.

Please do. I'm interested, and I'd like to see a different take on the Ajah's if you (or anyone else) has one.

Whites are definitely the deepest, but I think Blues are the best at applying the philosophical truths of the Whites to actual human lives and causes, and involve themselves in the lives and quests of humanity.

She probably would have had a trist with Corey, and then had the usual romance life of a Cairhienin noblewoman.
Corey?
Is that Cormanes, the young man she kissed before going to the Tower?
You come up with some inventive nicknames.

Just nod and smile, whatever they are saying.

I'm a Gemini, and I've always found it to be eerily true when I read descriptions, though I sometimes try to hide my less-appealing qualities.
"Gemini, the sign of the Twins, is dual-natured, elusive, complex and contradictory. When they are good, they are very attractive; when they are bad they are more the worse for being the charmers they are. They quickly learn to use their outward attractiveness to gain their own ends, and when striving for these they will use any weapon in their armory - unscrupulous lying, and cunning evasiveness; escaping blame by contriving to put it on other people, wrapped up in all the charm they can turn on. In their better moments they may strive to be honest and straightforward, but self-interest is almost always the victor. They are often skilled manipulators of language, in speech and writing.
Most Gemini have a keen, intuitive, sometimes brilliant intelligence and they love cerebral challenges, though their thoughts can often turn towards introspection or depression. But their concentration, though intense for a while, does not last.
In love they are fickle, not intentionally so but because of the basic inconsistency of their emotional nature, which has an amoral aspect to it. There is a side to Geminians which can become deeply involved emotionally, and another which stands back from a romantic situation, laughing at it and the people in it, including themselves while analyzing it intellectually. They like intrigue, the excitement of the chase, but once they have caught the prey, they lose interest and look around for the next creature to pursue.
In less serious situations they make witty, entertaining companions, good acquaintances rather than friends."
I read somewhere, a small mention that Gemini were more inclined towards their own sex, and also were more likely to marry someone of a different ethnicity.
Hope you all, including other Gemini, found this interesting.

I have no idea what you are talking about. *wipes crumbs from mouth*
Your cake is right here:
See....I only took the one slice out of the corner and shared it with Kaitlin.

Some, including I'm sure the dignified and proud Aes Sedai, would rather die than be so utterly humiliated and defeated and chained.

I must have been in the cave, too.
Who is Whitney and why is she/he filing for divorce?

What realy makes me angry is that the people on Wotmainia seemes to think that what Alanna did to Rand was worse than what the asha'man did. Everyone hates Alanna for bonding Rand but most people like Logain.
Because (incoming feminism/common sense) they are men and the idea of a man forcing himself on a woman and controlling her is common and even, dare I say, acceptable to them. But the reverse, a woman controlling a man, is abomination to them, and takes away their sense of security and power that they can only find in the fact of their masculinity.
Back on topic, the whole subject is very personal and makes me very angry. Warder/Aes Sedai bonding without consent is immeasurably worse than rape. Rape usually only happens once and doesn't last long. Bonding lasts years, decades even. Every single moment of every day, you are enslaved to that person, unable even to resist an order to kill, to allow yourself to be raped, or countless other things. It is the epitome of slavery, and in my opinion, I don't understand how people can even have questions about the morality of this subject.
As for Mat and Tylin, I agree with what has already been stated by others: that Mat was only upset because he hadn't initiated it and wasn't in control (which goes back to what I was saying in my firt paragraph).
I find many things about WoT sexist towards women, because RJ is just what we would consider "old-fashioned", and also sexism towards men by the women, because he tried to make the society equal. I have never yet heard of a society where the genders are truly equal and do not resort to manipulating and controlling each other.

Very happy birthday, Marie!

Sorry all, I didn't mean that as personal insults to you. I've just never understood what is so entertaining about men running around in tights slamming into each other. Then they stop, line up again, run for 10 sec, then stop, line up again, and repeat. I guess I just never liked the game.
And the general public of America aren't knowledgable/educated I should have said, instead of intelligent. There have been all kinds of surveys where they walk up to random people on the street in America and ask them questions like "How many kidneys does a person have?" or "On this map, point to New York state", and other simple questions, and the normal people are unable to answer.
But the people on these fora and their families are no doubt intelligent (because they read and understand complex books like WoT) and I never meant what I said as insults to any of you, you all have my continuing respect and I apologize for my statement and for sounding like a conceited idiot.
-
Because most Americans, and the type that would find football entertaining, aren't very intelligent I'm sorry to say.
-
I don't think so, Iridal. It's a pretty solid and poetic ending.
-
Hmm, was under the impression they were the same age. My mistake,
Ah well, either way it's a mistake by RJ, nice observation.

Moiraine and Siuan are 16 when they come to Tar Valon. because they complete their training in 6 years and Moiraine says she is 22 to that Aes Sedai in Canluum in NS.
Also, Moiraine recalls that the Sun Palace "is full of currents that could pull you under even at fifteen and sixteen". This means she was still in Cairhien playing Daes'dae'mar at 16, before she went to the Tower.
Not sure where you got 14 from.
-
Ah ok, thank you both.
-
Greetings to you too, Iridal!

Throughout reading the books, I've come across little tidbits that I found funny, or seen a mistake that RJ has made. I wanted to make a thread were we could all post those little lines we found funny or ironic.
(Pls give me a good spanking if there is already such a thread.)
1. We all know of Moiraine's sneaky little weave for listening to other's people conversations. In TSR, however, after making the Tairens back away she thinks to herself "She did not like being overheard." LOL!
2. We know from NS that Alanna was an Accepted at the same time as Moiraine & Siuan, a little over 20 years ago, and yet I remember Cadsuane saying (either in PoD or WH) that Alanna had worn the shawl for 40 years.
3. When Nynaeve is first taken to her testing for Accepted, she hears that she will encounter her fears. Her first thought are that her fears will be darkness or "her nervousness concerning spiders". I find it a very cute little irony that RJ has put in; that Nynaeve is scared of spiders and her nemesis is Moghedien the Spider.
Please post yours! And I will dig for others.
Discourse on the Blue Ajah

Maybe Blues are there because all Aes Sedai DON'T have a divine or righteous purpose. For all their airs, they are still just human, with flaws and faults. Maybe Blues wanted to have a mediocre job description (to kind of "fill the ranks" of Aes Sedai for the indecisive) so that they could be free to do what they wanted without having to answer to self-righteous Whites.....naming no names.... (just kidding
)
