  1. Okay!

I just read the letter in Knife of Dreams for the first time.

Now my thoughts are all over the place. Did Moiraine and Thom know one another before Emonds Field? I mean that's never stated, but it struck me that the last time they talked to one another was a most uncertain conversation in TSR. They sized each other up, as it were.

Yes, Thom always seemed to find her attractive.

And she seemed amused by him, but.........................

    Romance?????

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for it. They're two of my favorite characters.

Both interesting, unique, and barely used after TFoH! But.................

    Romance?????

Was anyone else blindsided by the Jordan there? I always avoided the discussion till now because I still wanted to see how that relationship built. It seems to me that they really had to know each other in some way.

My line of thought comes from TEoW when they first encounter each other. "He seemed not best pleased to find her there." She addressed him as "Master Bard" as if she had some sense of who he used to be.

I don't know. I'm just hoping that Jordan wasn't projecting his own dirty old man fantasies on his characters. Something he does far too often as it is. Come on, the nude woman seem to increase by book. Now as I guy I suppose it's odd I should complain. It just seemed over indulgent at times.

So when and how did Moiraine and Thom become a thought????

  2. Have had computer issues and haven't been around much. Missed you all. Stupid being trapped in the Bore.

I did enjoy the ending of LoC. Everything changes. It's really the first true change where Rand begins losing control of his sanity.

  3. Here I am, the one fan of Rand here. This is a young guy thrust into unasked for circumstance against every evil (petty and Major) the world has to offer.

He's in perpetual pain, he has a madman in his head, everyone he ever knew is afraid or at least wary of him. The power he wields racks him and sends him into uncontrollabe rages. And at the end of the ride, he's guaranteed a painful, hideous death.

When he finally accepted these as realities he still thought he could get kings and nobles on board to unite everything. Yet everyone spent their time trying to manipulate him to their own ends. It's a constant barrage that while he doesn't always deal well with -

I hated how he treated Moiraine, but they changed each other and she proved to be the coolest character in the story as a result. Complain all you like about his inability to kill women, but if he weren't that way...

1st, no dramatic defining moment for Moiraine against Lanfear.

2nd, how long would his sanity really last without some level of compassion?

For my part I love his story arch because it's an arch loaded with contridictions and no easy answers. Much like real people.

  4. Me or Ekho?

Oh, that reminds me. The AIDS film I've been editing went to the Cannes film Festival in France! That's why I was in Italy, I was on my way back and got to spend a few days in Rome before returning to the States.

For my part it was my first time in Europe, so needless to say it was doubly amazing!

Again Ekho, have fun! See everything you can.

  5. I was introduced to Hellsing through the first TV series. I know that it didn't follow the authors idea of the story, so OVA is picking that up... and some of the animation is better quality... but

Call me old fashioned but I enjoy well drawn out character development. I saw the 1st OVA and it violently rehashed old news without taking anytime for interpersonal conflict (outside the gore fest).

Don't get me wrong, Asmo love gore... but I also enjoyed the quieter conflicts between Alucard, Seras, and Integra in the first series. OVA had Seras totally cool with becoming a vampire right off... where's the the development? I like the shit that slowly makes her deal and eventually enjoy what she is. A methodical build makes for more compelling climaxes.

Perhaps OVA gets more in depth as it takes its own life and cue from the manga, but that first episode disappointed me. Though I do enjoy anything that has to do with Paladin Anderson. I kinda miss the old jazzy music as well. I'm more then aware that I'm in a very small minority here. Each to their own.

  6. You will note my wicked grin.

But since Pac-man has 7 forks I'll say it.

May the Lady Moiraine keep you satisfied..... though I will point out in EoTW Moiraine herself said to Ewin (I think that was his name) "But you must call me Moiraine, not Lady."

  7. Well I like to have Servers thrown out of windows in large buildings! Oh, Oh, THEN I take rifle shots at them to see how many times I can hit it before it strikes the ground. Then I end with a lavish dance on it's remains.
