When I started reading the books I thought Lan would never care for anyone but Moiraine. I gues I just expect everyone eles to be as obsest with her as I am.

I just assumed everyone wanted Moiraine for their own. I'm still shocked to read a character isn't in love with her. They are clearly in denial.

From the words lan says to nyn at the beginning of TDR, I don't think there are any doubts as to whether he really loves her.... but after moiraine died, the very fact that he agreed to marry her inspite of knowing his destiny is proof enough for that.

Was reading the Wotmania thread, and yes, his decision in KoD did strike me... well, not odd, because I knew that Lan was Lan... but... I'm not sure what I'm saying! I'm not going to say much because I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't read KoD. I think he does love Nynaeve (yes, yes, I know I've said that many times!) but he has lived with his cause since birth.

 

Maybe I'm trying to say his damn cause is more important to him. Am I saying that? *confused*

Actually, I think Lan does his duty instead of staying with Nynaeve because he has that strong sense of honour inbred.
