To be honest, I never was too perceptive about there being a romantic relationship between Moiraine and Thom. *hides from Marie*

To me, that letter she wrote didn't strike me as romantic, but somehow as a niece would speak to her beloved uncle. Now I don't have KoD with me, so I cannot reference the EXACT words, and I could of course be wrong, but that's just how it struck me. Maybe it's because I'm not used to Moiraine speaking in such manners. Maybe it's because I'd expect her to be a lot more...stoic.

And how Dena found herself in such a mix of emotions, I cannot say. I will, however, say that I think Thom had been much more distraught over the contents of Moiraine's letter than with the death of Dena. This could be for a number of reasons. First is to suggest that Thom was not disturbed, but hopeful that Moiraine would be found again. Conversely, I cannot envision Thom mourning Dena for very long, or at least outwardly for very long. Third, Thom was contemplating when to reveal it to Mat, because, after all, revelation was part of his instructions. Since Moiraine instructed Thom to reveal the letter to Mat, I think it lends credibility to the idea that Moiraine was not speaking in romantic terms. I doubt she would allow Mat to see that side of her. On the other hand, perhaps she MEANT for him to see her romantic side. Or maybe she wrote it ambiguously, such that a hapless person (like myself, or Mat) would not see the romance in it, but someone like Thom (or in this case, Marie), perceptive to her innuendo, would see it.

Ach, well, it seemed a little romantic to me but then again Moiraine didn't have a clue what wasn't sure if she was going to live or die the next day, if memory serves, or how things would pan out and this could be her last chance yadda yadda. So what did it matter to her if Mat saw her romantic side? Might've made her remembered a bit more fondly.

Though, 45, I did agree with your little bit that he didn't mourn Dena for long...

Dude! It's was Dena's death that made him go all "make them sigh but don't get too close". I suppose because of that thinking I always saw his whoring as a form of mourning Dena.

She knew she would live, she just didn't know if Thom would save her. Or should I say, Mat would agree to try and save her.

Thom is a good talker,

There's a guy called thom in my class. He's a good talker too. really bad though.

Dena is dead. Too bad.

She would have made a superior wife to Moiraine. She would have been submissive and attentive to the needs of a man like Thom. Moiraine would probably just piss and moan all day or else knock a brother around with the Power.

Why're you on her website if you got so much against the woman. Cut her soem slcak. It bites to be expected to jump at the bid and call of a man.

I think Moiraine and Nynaeve might keep a short leash on their male pets and most likely trade them for random weekends whenever they get bored with their own.

Ha ha ha. You got me rocking in my seat with all these sarcastic remarks.
