Monarchy of Cairhien

Recommended Posts

So...time for some WoT discussions, methinks, as we don't actually do a lot of that around here, only discuss how great/what a sex god Moiraine is. :)

Who do you think the throne of Cairhien will pass to? Or will it pass to anyone? RJ has hinted at leaving loose ends, so will this be one of them?

Possible candidates for the Cairhienin Crown (oooh...alliteration :))

1. Our own dear Moiraine Sedai, light forever shine on her.

2. Caraline, our dear Moiraine's cousin and pale imitation.

3. Galad, for connections with Daddy Damodred. And he probably wont have much to do once the Last Battle is over.

4. Gawyn...again, connections with Daddy Damodred and he is Elayne's brother. But has the world had enough of the Trakand siblings? I have. And he does have the whole plot going on with Egwene, so he might be warder material before he's a King... (and by god, wouldn't we all hate to see him Kind of anywhere?!)

5. Elayne Trakand, because Rand wants her to have it. Elayne doesn't want the throne of Cairhien and I doubt the people of Cairhien would accept her on it. Revolution, anyone? :P

6. Assorted Cairhienin nobles, as they're all very canniving and things like that...

So...discuss!

Well, I think the options for the throne will be narrowed down to three: Galad, Caraline, and Moiraine.

When Taringail married into House Trakand, he severed his chance of being Cairhien's king. This would make any solid claims Morgase's children have far weaker than Galad's. The only reason Elayne even has a claim to begin with is because she's sleeping with the Dragon Reborn.

Caraline is the current High Seat of House Damodred and semi-buddies with the Dragon. However, she seems stuck to the hip of that big nosed Tairen, so until he gets himself killed I don't think she'll be in the running, really. More likely she'll simply support which ever Damodred has the best chance of getting the crown.

Then there is Moiraine. She ran away from the throne 20 years ago (oh! foreshadowing), but in current times she'd have less excuses. And less places to run away to. They would probably have to push her into the job, but that'll just make her a better queen! Besides, she needs something to do besides stare at Thom.

And now you all may tear apart my reasonings.

I don't remember a whole lot from the books, but there is this little memory I have of something in the books about Caraline not being able to rule in her native country because of her ties to Tear now. *wonders if she's making it all up?*

Moiraine might not like to be queen, but I agree with Marie in that it would probably make her a good choice. It's evident she felt protective of her fellow Cairhienin...the poor and the rich, and she might very well be a hero to her people because of what happened at the Docks. AS or no she'd be likely to have support.

Galad looks to be getting deeper involved in the whole Whitecloak thing. It doesn't seem like a good idea to make him king if he's tied to them. He wouldn't have a lot of support from the people. They might even riot more than Moiraine was afraid they would have with an AS ruler.

What about that Dobraine guy? What's going on with him? *always liked him for King, even though he never wanted it* Well, somebody like him would be good anyway. :P

I forgot about how deeply Galad is getting with the Whitecloaks. I think his place is cleaning up that lot, not saving Cairhien.

Moiraine has become a hero with the youngins in the Rebel Tower, and chances are she'll become one in Cairhien as well. She found the Dragon Reborn, battled more than one Forsaken, will come back from the "dead", etc. I can't see any of the other Houses offering up a better canidate.

It's becoming obvious that Elayne is having issues just handling Andor. Adding another country to the mix is a bad idea. I'm sure with Moiraine sitting there staring at him Rand will ask her to just "watch over" her country for a little bit.

Elayne's pregnancy didn't come at the best time. To be fair to her Morgase really did mess up the country pretty badly (only due to a Forsaken's influence!).

It's a bit annoying that she's just working to get herself on the throne instead of trying to do what's best for the country.

I don't think Moiraine is that way, so maybe if she's offered the throne and she can't take it.. she can support the next best person.

I think right now what would be best for Andor is getting a stable leader, so I would consider what Elayne is doing quite justified. Other leaders are clambering for leadership of Andor and there's no point in giving alms to the poor if they're all going to be cut down in a civil war. :P

I think moiraine would be the best candidate for the throne but not necessarily the most likely.

I think Caroline or another Carhienin noble will end up ruling, Galads far too busy with the whitecloaks and Elayne or Gawyn wouldn't last a day on the throne, they just aren't ruthless enough.

Maybe Carhien will become a Republic or something. Mudslinging won't be a problem. Nah, random noble will probably get it. Moiraine probably will find something other to do, Galad, Gawyn, Elayne, well, we know their mess. Nor do I think any of them would be good at it. Galad is too goodie-goodie for politics. The brother and sister are spoiled. They also wouldn't last on that throne. (is still hoping Elayne will get booted off the Lion Throne)

If Cairhien got a very awful and selfish leader it could be time to set up the guillotines all over again.

Whoever becomes the new leader has got to do something about the poor. And I don't just mean the newest refugee poor. They've been neglected for too long, and the poor people have to live in buildings that are half falling down while the nobles sit around curling their hair. How many stable farms and villages are there away from the capitol now? There are so many people squeezed into the city, but it seems like there are many more just dispossessed and wandering around.

The new King/Queen should ask the Ogier for help after the last battle to fortify the Outer City and things (whatever it's called :P ). They could use some of the building materials from their stinkin Topless Towers!

Not only are all of those things problems, but they seriously need to improve relations with the Aiel, Tear, and Andor. The School they have going could help with that - but not with the Aiel. Maybe Momo should come back with a few seeds for new Trees of Life and a couple Green Men/Women. ;)
