Wokey then, we'll get Luciano Pavrotti for Thom's voice

@Kat : I did find a couple of his songs ... they did seem to be the type you suggested. I will download them from home and listen to them. (I don't want to do it from here :P)

*gigglefits* I just pictured Thom as Pavrotti all trussed up. Okie, I see your point... maybe Thom's more gritty than that. :P

ehehehe, I can't wait to see what you think about Barry.

I prefer Marwin Gaye before Barry White.

Bob Dylan isn't a very good singer in the classical sense but he has a unique voice which he uses in a way nobody has been able to mimic since. Also seeing how Randland seems to lack any form of musical instruments barring the harp and the flute I don't really think a bard would be singing a serenade infront of the court, but rather just ordinary tunes about heroes and adventures but with a tad bit more class. And so I thought Bob Dylan would be good since he is pretty much a modern day Gleeman.

The thing that gets me is, is when Thom uses the High voice (or whatever it's called; too lazy to look it up). That comes across to me as a voice that is damn near golden sounding and projects like a bell - not something Dylan is known for. Dylan seems more street musician than court bard.

Yes, Dylan's style, his writing, and the whole way he is seem perfect for a gleeman, except that his voice isn't technically as good as other professional singers. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think Dlyan himself ever claimed it was.

I'm thinking of some other singers with unique voices. Louis Armstrong (who I happen to love, but some people have argued about his technical ability), Joe Cocker, Rod Stewart, Willie Nelson all have great voices that are totally unique. A lot of people really like them and few could emulate them.. but like Dlyan it could be argued that their voice quality is technically as good as other singers--Aretha Franklin, Judy Garland.. Eddie Vedder had good technical skill for his genre as well as could write, etc!

None of those are my favorite.. except for Louis Armstrong. I tried not to pick ones I liked so it wouldn't be all biased!
