[Split] Epic Character Discussions! *echos*

Recommended Posts

One in the beginning of 11th book, one somewhat in the middle, and then two right after each other toward the end. Or something like that. In any case there was no need to drag it out.

Damn right. He didn't even nail that Berelain woman, he just bitched about how horrible it is not having a god damned spine and being able to say no. Oh and he played in the snow until he got sick.

And the "wisewomen" and the so called Aes Sedai (There hasn't been a proper Aes Sedai since the Amyrlin in New Spring damn it) and all the "men" in the silly "army" sat around gossiping in their little tents.

While I'm on the subject (almost), is it just me or does Perrins and Failes interaction with eachother in the later books feel cold? There just seems like theres no love there at all.

Blasphemous cretin! Dull-witted, monotonous, repobrate solitaire playing orgy of subhuman decency!

Nah not really. I like Perrin too, but the bumbling and innocent fool with the world on his shoulders and the *woe* bit is getting f*cking old.

They're all freaking morons I tell you... But thats an entirely different conversation.

I really liked when he was with Momo and Lan and flirting (as much as someone whose more naive and innocent than a three seconds old baby Jesus can flirt) with Faile.

Well by some of this logic there's a case to be made that most if not ALL the character's issues are getting old.... probably because the series itself drags it out to a almost strange point. Funny though, of all the characters I find myself most tried to read is Mat. He bitches to NO end..... he makes up for it by following through with what he sets out to do. But sometimes I just don't care to read what he's thinking.

Perhaps Moiraine should've shown back up a little more quickly. It's the kind of twist that might've kindled new and interesting developments. Hard to say I suppose. Since the characters are who they've been, I don't get overly tired with their various arcs....... it's just SOMETIMES the whole GET ON WITH IT feeling lurks its way into the back (or fore front) of my mind.

Indeed. Something I brushed upon in my last post in this thread. Though nobody would know that but me I guess unless I explain my train of thought while I wrote that particular paragraph. Which I won't.

There is simply no maturation in the characters. There is only an descent into a dismayed sort of normalcy. They are supposed to be forged and strengthened through all these events yet they remain inexperienced even with experience. They stumble through each trial as the snot-nosed farmboys they were when they set out only with some new special abbility and in some cases a post-traumatic stress disorder which turns one into a masochist and schizophrenia.

In short, they're all freaking fools and it annoys me.

Thats why I like Mat, hes the only one of the Edmond's field people who has developed in a way that doesn't read like a f*cking Spider-man comic book.

On another note I want to say I still love the WoT books, they give me a special feeling, despite my occasional bitterness.

I still like them too, even though I also complain.

Perrin himself is not so bad (I don't really like him, but he's better than Randholio a lot of the time), but any character that just does the same thing for books and books is going to be getting on my nerves. He had no strong storyline after the end of the Two Rivers events except Faile's rescue. Perrin might have become more interesting by just giving us fewer chapters. That way any curiosity we might be having about him wouldn't be so quickly sated.

You know, with the way some of the characters act it is really not surprising that Nynaeve resorted to violence all of those years. :) Sometimes I felt like even more bitch slaps should have been in order.

I know RJ wanted to show that the Aes Sedai were human and that they make mistakes, but I wish he hadn't set them up to fail that much. These women were supposed to be the elite of the elite according to all of the testing and trials they had to go through. They shouldn't be puking

because Egwene takes total control.

Shouting was enough of a break in composure and much less yucky. :P Even kicking over benches in the heat of the moment. Warders stumbling. But please no more puking.

And I want to like the Ashamen, but there are only a couple I actually like. Do I go with Taim, the big evil plan guy? Or Logain, the one who forces bonds? Blech! I didn't like Alanna for it, so surely I'm not going to like Logain.

Logain reminds me of one of those tiny fluffy dogs that old women spoil.

Hes all arrogant and bitchy.

And yes the Aes Sedai have gone from stoic, composed and respected (with good reason) to snivelling punks. Which is just silly.

The only one who isn't is Cadsuane and shes just more thick-headed than she is intelligent and poised. And I'd say the same for most of the "wise ones".

I like Cadsuane. I just wish artists wouldn't draw her like a shriveled old hag. I mean, she is damn old, but the AS don't get wrinkled. Anyway, that's hardly the point. The point is that Cadsuane is thickheaded and a pain, but she is the best one of them in the later books. And, I like Sorilea. : d Dashiva too, though he is evil.

CADSUANE IS GOD. RESPECT. >:@

I'm an atheist :) SO THERE!

...seriously though. I don't like Cadsuane, but then I don't like Rand either. I think he should have followed up on his threat when he first met her; something like "Leave now, through the door or a window - it's your choice." And I agree with what others have said, Aes Sedai have been lame in later books and I never liked the Asha'man.

I kinda liked the slow Aes Sedai switch.... Granted I liked them on a whole a lot less after Moiraine disappeared and the surly bitches tried to pull as much shit as they did in the Lord of Chaos. So watching the bottom fall out on their self importance and their uber in charge irrogance .... I felt like it came as it should.

Though I never felt that way about Moiraine. I always felt like she got a raw deal with how she was so distrusted for so long. It made for good drama, but it always bothered me too.

Hehe, Everyone here hates Rand SO much. Maybe it's a guy girl thing. I don't know. But I'll put my two cents in, Moiraine Sedai was the reason I got into the books, Rand's why I kept reading.

Two characters that I sometimes think should've gotten more development time. Thom and Loial.
