Unreleased Books/Unfinished works

Recommended Posts

It is official (and has been for quite some time) that Brandom Sanderson is finishing the last book. I'm pretty sure Sanderson has a blog on dragonmount.com where he keeps people updated on the progress hes made and whatnot. Last time I checked he was still re-reading all of RJ's previous books so as to "get into the spirit" of things or somesuch.

I think Sanderson will do a good job of finishing the book. Hes not going to try and emulate RJ's style of writing too much, which I think is good since it would lower the quality of Sandersons writing. As I understand it hes going to use his own style yet follow whatever storyline RJ had decided upon.

It might not be as good as it could have been but hey, c'est la vie, and Brandon Sanderson really does seem like an interesting author to me. Maybe Ekho can back me up on this since shes read/reading one of his books.

Hmm what i have in mind is the Dune Series where Herbert's son continued his father's stories and the outcome was less than average.Soits going to be an original novel based on RJ's storyline and notes? Hmm interesting but still its quality may be in doubt for RJ's last works were not that great .

Having read Brandon Sanderson's work I think he could do a good job finishing the series, especially as he is really just building on what RJ has already wrote.

The only real reservations I have about sanderson are because his writing style is quite different to RJ, but I think his decision not to try and emulate RJ will benefit the series in the end. But thats just my two cents

Yes. And as far as the deep descriptions, well RJ became more ponderous and frustraiting as he went on. Though COT is the only book I'm really having trouble with. It's 800 pages of everyone pacing impatiently (like the reader)

So Sanderson may be a good wrap up. Here's hoping anyway.

On a side note does any one have any books they liked more then the critics led to believe? I could start a thread there, mainly because I think some of the later stories are unfairly distained (mainly Wintersheart)

I really liked that one.

I admit I have some reservations too. It's not that I don't think Sanderson is a good author. From reading his stuff he seems pretty talented. It's just wondering whether it will be the same without RJ having written the whole thing. It seems like RJ wrote rough drafts - or told his family in detail - all of the most important parts of the story though, so that is a good thing.

*will buy it but maybe not read it all right away*

Sure it needs closure but one mustbe rather faithful to book's spirit or else we will have anunfortunate mash up.

True, the series's level reached new lows during the midst of it and perhaps its creator's death was allit needed for a new brush up and level up.The question is will Sanderson provide this? In my opinion a rather good candidate could be Eric van Lustbader ,mainly because i am familiar with his work :)

Personally I think Sanderson was as good a choice as any, especially as he was a fan of the books before RJ's passing, which means I think he will try to mantain the spirit of the series alive

I'd also like to see some actual character development , especially in Rand. Rand coul have been an interesting character if handled right, especially if he had embraced the whole "building an Empire" deal.

Instead we have a character thats whining about getting Deus ex machinas and kingdoms thrown in his face.
