The New Spring thread

I don't really think it was out of character. She wants to punish those who she has enough evidence to be convinced they are criminals. The men (and women) in that one woman's tavern may or may not have been guilty of something. But the innkeeper (under duress) admitted to her sins. A bunch of roughnecks on the highway advertise their mischief. I don't think RJ wanted rape to be a major theme of that scene, more of a highlight of how Moiraine is a believer in an eye for an eye.

I'd quite like it if a RJ's notebooks were published.

In Thom's letter Moiraine said "Heed carefully what I say."   Guess who also says such formal warnings (in face the exact same sentence)? Cadsuane. She told Moiraine that. And Moiraine didn't heed

That's a good way to look at it, that the evidence was there for what the innkeeper did and the highwaymen, but also it was made pretty clear what the people advancing toward the innkeeper were about to do. That's her evidence. I mean, there wasn't much she could do realistically, but then again she didn't do any considering about it either as RJ wrote it. I didn't say it was majorly out of character for her, but I do believe it was a little. I don't think it'd be in character for her to particularly care about the people going after the innkeeper in any personal way, but just like with the thieves on the road I did wonder about why she didn't have that irrational Young Moiraine urge to have them rounded up, until she remembered she was supposed to be laying low. :P My sentences are long.

Edit: And I just remembered also that it was like a bar where they all seemed to pay for sex with these people that the innkeeper drugged so... that's slightly different *but still*!! !1 !

RJ dealt with some stuff lighter than he kind of had to. I'm not saying there had to be a "Very Special Chapter Where Mat Deals with his Victimization", but just deal with it as it is with no bullshit one way or the other. *looks at Logain* But that is another thread and I am taking up this one with tired rants. I've ranted about it all before. :P

Page 68 (in the 1st US hardcover edition, at least) has one of my favorite moments: Moiraine being bigoted about Andorans.

Andorans always focused on one matter at a time; they were stubborn people, over-proud, and they lacked imagination

That was a great moment, especially since we mostly get to see the world through Andoran eyes in the series.

I love how that woman Moiraine roomed with had all the advice in the world for her about what Tower life was going to be like, but everything she told her was wrong. Also, it was a shame Ryne turned out to be a DF.

I am slowly but surely (but mostly slowly) getting through my NS reread. At any rate, I noticed something!

"Moiraine!" Siuan's whisper was low' date=' but managed a sharp edge.

She looked at her friend in surprise. Siuan wore a scowl. How had the other woman known? She had not begun to weave![/quote']

Moiraine arched an eyebrow, and Siuan blushed, the Light around her vanishing. She had no right to look so surprised. After six years of practically in one another's belt pouches, Moiraine knew at a glance when her friend was thinking mischief. For someone as intelligent as she was, Siuan was blind sometimes.

^ Yeah I lol'd at that part too  It's a lot like in the later series when Nynaeve says something like, "You'll get no where with a person if all you do is try to bully them" and Aviendha and Elayne have to try really hard not to laugh at the hypocrisy.

I like to call Nynaeve "Moiraine, Jr."

What about Elayne? I knew those times were just tricks to get me to falsely admit I liked Elayne!

Something that I don't often think about now, but found interesting to begin with was the test for AS. I wonder how they go about giving the test. I don't mean the Weaves, but what preparation is involved, and how the test givers are chosen. Well, I assume some instructors would be present, and they'd all have to know that Accepted.

Moiraine and Siuan had to "fight" even when becoming AS together. I say it in quotes because it wasn't really. They were so sweet to want to be exactly on the same level as the other with no one of them having the advantage.
