Wow, there's so much stuff going on here that I want to talk about, because it's Mo/Lan/Siuan (eek! not a threesome! ) and about RJ being a dirty old man! Anyway, I'll just cut and paste an IM chat Kate and I were having on this:

 

me: Well, I don't know. I find him fairly traditional in his depiction of women.

Hello Jan in this thread. There was a lot of extra convo about all of this and in that I said that Nynaeve and Moiraine were strong female characters that RJ'd written in the beginning. That might help make sense of my "not totally" comments. Otherwise it looks like I'm just making excuses for him or not wanting to see how stereotypical he is in all of that. But, I was basically asleep while typing so you'll have to excuse.

Siuan and Gareth are so gruff together. They are so similar in that way! Maybe they are good for each other. It is better in that Siuan isn't actually 20 or 30 years younger than him, even though she looks like it.

 

Yes, Olivia II, it is pretty typical of us to hijack it and you are too kind! I do love Thom. He is dashing. If Mat were more clever about the Game of Houses I would say he reminds me of him. But Thom is also a little sweeter in some ways maybe. But, I am biased because I like him so much. And think of the clever machinations between Moiraine and Thom over who sleeps on which side of the bed! Their babies would be experts at manipulation too... or they'd just be good at standing on their heads....

 

After Thom dies from old age I wouldn't mind Moiraine getting together with Mat, Lan, Amalisa, Myrelle or even Tuon. *cackles*

Speaking of how old Thom is, this issue of him dying and her living on for so long after him makes me wonder if she will come back stilled. Part of what I think makes Suian so fit for Gareth is that she's stilled. I wonder if the same will be true for Mo with Thom. *lip trembles* I cannot imagine Thom marrying an Aes Sedai as it is, even if is attracted to Mo.
