Not to put too fine of a point on it, Moiraine is paranoid. This is the girl who assumed Cadsuane was Black Ajah back when she was newly raised and, let's be honest, not for very good reasons outside of Cadsuane probably scared her and made her uncomfortable and threatened to spank her ass. Oh, and the fact that she's paranoid.

 

You also have to remember Verin stuck her nose in with Rand and the boys when they were chasing after the Horn; Moiraine probably didn't like that and given her paranoia, is going to look at Verin in a non too nice light.

 

If she had known Cadsuane was alive she probably would have warned him about her. Especially about her.

That's true I do think Moiraine can make mistakes about people, and she certainly didn't like Verin's interference, but what really has me wondering if she's a Darkfriend is this "mistake" she keeps referring to that happened 71 years ago. That was before Rand or Mo or anyone was born, so it just has me wondering about her. I'm not saying I think she is but I'm not confident she isn't either. Even if Mo is paranoid, I think RJ including Verin in the letter has some significance. I think Mo may know more about Verin than was revealed in the books but without really knowing exactly what Verin's deal is. I just dont know what to make of the woman! I think there will eventually be a huge moment when everything comes out.

I've never thought Verin was a darkfriend, but that doesn't necessarily make her trustworthy. Its possible Moiraine included Verin in that letter simply because she was unsure of her motives towards helping Rand and wanted him to be careful.

 

Although I can't wait for Mo to come back and find out Cadsuane has been helping Rand. Should be interesting

I don't think Verin is a darkfriend. I think she is a sneaky little bastard, and some of her actions are unethical, but she's not a baddie.

 

Now Cadsuane...I love me some Caddy. I just read a scene where she is thinking to herself she'd run the entire White Tower through the streets naked if she thought it would help her goals.

"Cairhien." Romanda's high voice range like sudden chimes. "Definitely Cairhien." Her entry made Lelaine's seem almost diffident, the force of her personality abruptly filling the tent. There were no warm smiles in Romanda; handsome as her face was, it did not seem made for them.

 

Theodrin followed her in, and Romanda swung her cloak off with a flourish and tossed it to the slim, apple-cheeked sister with a peremptory gesture that sent Theodrin hurrying to a corner opposite Faolain....

 

Throwing down the tent-flap, Romanda embraced the Source. The glow of saidar surrounded her, and she wove a ward against eavesdropping around the inside of the tent without so much as a pretense of asking Egwene's permission. "You are a fool!"

"The Amyrlin Seat." Romanda strode across the carpets to within arm's reach of Egwene, and by her glare, the thought of reaching more crossed her mind. "You're an infant! Your bottom still remembers the last switching it had as a novice! After this, you'll be lucky if the Hall doesn't put you in a corner with a few play pretties. If you want to avoid that, you will listen to me, and do as I tell you. Now, sit down!"

From the corner of her eye, she saw a smile pass across Romanda's lips at seeing Lelaine set down. Small profit if all she did was raise Romanda's stock with the others. "That holds for everyone, Romanda," she said. "If need be, Tiana can find two birches as easily as one." Romanda's smile vanished abruptly.

 

Yeah she is a bitch. But damn, she's a good one! And Siuan. Ha. Well. I might be the only one who is, um, readily familiar with Spongebob. However if you who are reading this has any passing familiarity with it then you will be aware of Sandy and her habit of Texas based sayings and how sometimes other characters interrupt her tirade. This passage reminded me of that.

 

Siuan snorted. "I don't mind sailing the Fingers of the Dragon in the dark if I must," she muttered half under her breath. "We discussed that; we weighed the dangers, and anyway, there doesn't seem to be a gull's last dinner for choice. But you have to set a fire on the deck just to make things interesting. Netting lionfish isn't enough for you. You have to stuff a prickleback down your dress, too. You aren't content trying to wade a school of silverpike--"

 

Egwene broke in. "Siuan, I think I should tell Lord Bryne you're head over heels in love with him."
