how is moiraine's rescue going to go down?

Recommended Posts

I'm kinda clueless on even what I think might happen. there is going to have to be some sort of bargaining going on with mat, right? is moiraine going to be in the room? is it all going to be in the old tongue? is thom going to jump out and be all 'give me back mah woman!'? idk. that's what I wonder.

!

TBH I'm kinda clueless about it too. I figured that whatever I hypothesized, RJ's plans would end up being something completely unexpected and different, or else I would come near the mark in my guess but miss it completely. WoT plots are tricky like that. (Or maybe I'm just slow on picking up on them.)

For some reason I always pictured it as more of a fight rescue rather than a bargaining process. The theme of the Finns/Snakes and Foxes board game/etc is that you can't win unless you break the rules, so I assumed Mat and crew would just storm the place with their un-allowed weapons, like iron knives and harps and matches/explosives and do their best to kick the Aelfinns' and Elfinns' asses. But now that you mention it, it would be more crafty to somehow bargain with the Finns but find some tiny loophole in the agreement or cheat the rules somehow to get Moiraine back, since that fits the theme of bargains/"everything has a price" mentality of the Finns. :plot:

*shrugs* In the end, beats me. I just want Moiraine back.

Mat has to give up half the light of the world to save the world, and I know it has long been thought that refers to him losing an eye in exchange for Moiraine. It'll be interesting to see if that theory is true, and if it is, if Mat knows what he is giving up.

I believe there will be an attempt at negotiation. I cannot decide whether I believe that negation will fail or succeed. I know Moiraine will return and that is a success, but I mean if the bargain goes wrong and that causes problems for them or what. This is one plot point that seems foggy for everyone.

I still can't believe that it's just an eye to save the world. It has to be something else.....

It'd make so much sense if it was one of those creation stories of night came to be.

I believe the theory goes as thus: Min had a viewing that Rand could not win without a woman dead and gone--Moiraine is the assumed woman--the Finns told Mat he would have to give up half the light of the world to save the world; Egwene had a Dream of Mat missing an eye. I think she saw him putting it on a scale (or maybe Min saw it). So! Mat giving up an eye to save Moiraine indirectly saves the world.

I don't really see Mat doing that willingly. That's why I am interested in seeing if that theory is true and if so how it will all pan out.

I'm not sure if Mat losing an eye (or whatever other interpretation of "half the light of the world" ends up coming true) is necessarily related to his rescue of Moiraine. Certainly Moiraine will be important to the Last Battle (go Momo!), but I thought those viewings/prophecies about Mat had something to do with his own part in the Last Battle, like when he blows the Horn or uses his cannons or something.

Also, in the last book Mat was afraid that the Finn knew everything after Thom told him the plan to rescue Mo. He'll have to gamble which eye it is that he's got to lose, maybe.

I have a feeling Noal is probably going to die, since he's pretty expendable as a character.

After hearing that I really believe now his eye is a representation of something else, just like Egwene seeing the raven burn the Tower. His eye has to be for something...not sure though what is his to give up that would be "worth" half the "light" of the world?

Neither do I, he is Mat, lol. Me too!

I forgot about the horn completely....maybe...that ties to giving up "half the light of the world" ? Dooming the world somehow to save it?

Also, didn't someone on here think Noal was a forsaken? I can't recall.
